I've Got Five Minutes
In this case, it's all about the instant packets... Quaker is a major contender and master of all things oats. Our recent favorites from the guy in the blue hat are the Steel Cut Quick 3-Minute Oatmeal and the Protein Instant Oatmeal. Other brands we love? Kashi, Nature's Path, and Better Oats. Want to branch out from oaty options? Go for Cream of Wheat -- seriously, the chocolate variety is to die for. And if you can't be bothered to do so much as add water (we've all had those mornings), throw some frozen oatmeal -- like the kinds by Amy's and Tabatchnick -- into the microwave and wait for breakfast to make itself!
I've Got Half an Hour
Well then, you've got time to make one of HG's famous growing oatmeal bowls! Why the long cook time? These recipes call for twice the ordinary amount of liquid, yielding a ginormous bowl of oaty goodness. Just make sure to use old-fashioned oats; other kinds won't "grow," and that would be sad...
Say you like the consistency of hot cereal, but you're not married to the actual temperature. Have you ever had cold oatmeal? It is sooooo good. For example, oatmeal parfaits -- cooked oats layered with fruit and yogurt -- are really delicious. Also incredible? Overnight oats that don't require any cooking!
