Dear HG,

Summer is on the way, and I am really excited! I love grilling stuff and am OBSESSED with BBQ sauce. Most of the bottled sauces I've seen are virtually fat-free but have about 50 - 60 calories a serving. Any tips for lower cal BBQ sauces that taste great and won't add tons of calories to my meal if I pour 'em on generously?

Sucker 4 Sauce
Dear Sucker 4 Sauce,

I am a HUGE fan of BBQ sauce as well. I even use it as a salad dressing sometimes. I try to be careful though, because it is definitely too easy to use more than a 2-tablespoon serving in one sitting (in fact, it's almost impossible for me to stick to just 2 tablespoons -- I hate that!). I have a few saucy tips & tricks for you. For starters, check out KC Masterpiece's low-calorie version, Classic Blend (click here to see where it's sold). It's GREAT and has just 10 calories a serving. Another BBQ sauce tip is to mix a serving of it with a little fat-free sour cream. The result will be a nice large serving of a creamy BBQ sauce that makes a fantastic dip and/or salad dressing. Yum! Finally, I've got a SUPER-DELICIOUS BBQ sauce recipe (it's used in a few HG recipes). You can easily quadruple the recipe and keep a container of it in the fridge. It's really low in calories and tastes fantastic! Here it is...

HG's Not-So-Secret BBQ Sauce

PER SERVING (half of recipe, about 3 tbsp.): 37 calories, 0g fat, 347mg sodium, 9g carbs, 0.5g fiber, 8g sugars, <1g protein -- POINTS® value 1*

1/4 cup canned tomato sauce
2 tbsp. ketchup
2 tsp. brown sugar (not packed)
2 tsp. cider vinegar
1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Mix well. (That's it!)

Happy BBQ-ing!

Dear HG,

I JUST got the HG book, and I am freaking out! I can't get over how many new recipes there are! And they all look SO good! I don't know what to make first. Which are your absolute favorites?

Bonkers for the Book
Dear Bonkers,

First of all, THANK YOU for buying the book! I'm so glad you're excited about it! There are soooo many BRAND-NEW fun and delicious recipes in it, I don't know where to start. In the breakfast chapter, there is a super-cool breakfast pizza (with a fat-free egg crust!) that I love. It was actually inspired by a frozen kiddie breakfast item that I bought at a supermarket. There's also a recipe for my favorite soup in the universe called Kazu's Special Eggplant & Shrimp Soup -- that one came from my favorite sushi chef EVER, who runs my favorite restaurant on the planet (not that there's one I like more on Jupiter). Other standouts include Dan Good Chili (my husband's AMAZING recipe!), Crazy-Good Turkey Taco Meatloaf, Squash-tastic Shepherd's Pie, and a slew of new cocktails. I seriously could go on and on about the recipes in the book that I love (but I will spare you). I'll say this -- I think you should eventually try all of them, because they're all really great! Now you have me all riled up. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Hope you like 'em, and please let me know which are your favorites (that goes for all of you out there!). And remember, you can see pics and POINTS® values* for every single recipe in the book over at the official book site!
