Low-Cal, Low-Sugar Ketchup. YAY!
Low-Cal, Low-Sugar Ketchup. YAY!
Spotted on Shelves...

Heinz Reduced Sugar Ketchup - This stuff has 75% less sugar and (believe it or not!) two-thirds fewer calories than regular ketchup -- that's only 5 calories per tablespoon! And it tastes fantastic. WE LOVE KETCHUP, so we are PSYCHED about this! It's pretty easy to find, too (right there with the other ketchups!)...

New Sargento Reduced Fat Cheeses - Looking to add variety to the cheese in your life? These four new additions to Sargento's line of reduced fat cheese products have decent stats -- and they taste (and melt!) GREAT. There are Medium Cheddar slices (1 slice = 60 calories, 4g fat -- POINTS® value 2*), Sharp Cheddar sticks (1 piece = 60 calories, 4.5g fat -- POINTS® value 2*), Colby-Jack sticks (1 piece = 50 calories, 4.5g fat -- POINTS® value 1*), and Colby-Jack slices (1 slice = 50 calories, 4g fat -- POINTS® value 1*). The Colby-Jack stuff is our fave!

Lipton Iced Tea To Go in New Flavors! - Tea fans (fruity drink fans, too!), check this out. Lipton Iced Tea To Go packets now come in the following new flavors -- Green Tea with Pink Lemonade, Green Tea with Blueberry Pomegranate, Green Tea with Raspberry Lime, Green Tea with Citrus, White Tea with Raspberry, and White Tea with Apple Cranberry. Tea-rific!

Rice Chex Goes Gluten-Free - This is big news for gluten-avoiders. Rice Chex is now GLUTEN-FREE. We want the world to know. Look for the new gluten-free label on the front of the box. And FYI, the stuff still clocks in with 100 calories and 0.5g fat (POINTS® value 2*) per cup. Woohoo!
More BIG HG News!

The Hungry Girl news never stops...

HG on The Today Show This Thursday - Tune in to The Today Show this Thursday, May 1st, to see HG's Lisa promote the brand-new book (she'll be giving HG-tastic survival strategies). Exciting stuff!

People Magazine Feature, Issue On Sale NOW - AHHHH... a full page in People magazine!? Can it be? Yup... check out the issue that's on stands NOW! It's the one with the "World's Richest Kids!" headline. And BTW, the article implies that we all work out of Lisa's "apartment". We don't! We have a REALLY cute office (and Lisa doesn't live there) -- see pics of it on our MySpace page!

The HG Book Hits Shelves TOMORROW! - Yup, tomorrow is April 29th -- that's the day you can march into your favorite store and pick up a copy of the HG book (and if you don't see it, ask for it!). And if you're in NYC, you may want to march into the Borders at Columbus Circle at 7pm to have it signed by Lisa. Click here for the rest of the book-signing dates.
T.G.I. Frightening!
T.G.I. Frightening!
T.G.I. Friday's Buzz... Nutritionals EXPOSED!

Oh, yikes! Thanks to the on-again, off-again NYC law, all the calorie counts are now listed on the menus at T.G.I. Friday's locations in Manhattan. We're in Los Angeles, but our pal swiped a menu for us (thanks, Jenny!). Here are some highlights...

Salad Shock! Sure there are crazy-high-cal salads on the menu (hello, 1,360-calorie Pecan-Crusted Chicken Salad), but the REAL shock comes from the dressing stats themselves. There's Low Fat Cilantro Lime (160 calories), Italian (280 calories), House Vinaigrette (330 calories), Honey Mustard (470 calories!), Ranch (480 calories!!), Bleu Cheese (490 calories!!!), and -- brace yourselves -- Balsamic Vinaigrette (590 calories!!!!).

Typo, T.G.I? One thing we're a little skeptical about is the stats on their Classic Sirloin. While the other 8-ounce and 12-ounce steaks have around 750 calories each, the 10-oz. Classic Sirloin is listed as having 290 calories. We know sirloin is lean, but unless there's a 5-oz. bone in it, there's no CHANCE that thing has 290 calories!

Top Shockers! All the stuff you'd expect to be HORRENDOUSLY over-caloried IS. But, here are some surprising stats that are pretty darn awful...

Cherry Limeade Slush - 510 calories!
Bowl of Broccoli Cheese Soup - 540 calories!
Side order of "loaded" Mashed Potatoes (with bacon and extra cheese) - 960 calories!
Jack Daniel's Ribs & Shrimp - 1,910 calories!

Best Bets! Stick with their "Lighter Side" selections (labeled "Low Fat" or "Low Carb"), and all will be okay. (Even when it comes to the "Right Portion, Right Price" menu, sticking with the stuff labeled "Low Fat" or "Low Carb" is the way to go.) There's Dragonfire Chicken and Southwestern Mahi Mahi (each has 510 calories), Zen Chicken Pot Stickers and Shrimp Key West (370 calories each), Sizzling Chicken & Vegetables (670 calories, although likely much less if you nix the cheese) and a 330-calorie Chocolate Angel Swirl Cake. And all the "Low Fat" items have approximately 10 grams of fat. Not TOO horrendous.

P.S. Click here to check out our reviews from last year of some of Friday's "Low Fat" and "Low Carb" items. Sadly, some of that stuff is no longer on the menu (bring back the Lo-Phat Chicken Salad, Friday's!).
Today, April 28th, is National Blueberry Pie Day. Check out the HG cookbook for our 79-calories-per-slice Topless Triple Berry Pie! (So what if you have to wait a day to celebrate -- it'll be worth it!)
