Dear Hungry Girl,

I know it's a ways away but I like to think ahead.  What's the best Halloween candy to buy?

-- Candymonger

Dear Candymonger,

Good question.  But the answer really depends on what your goals are.  If you're anything like me, you probably want to buy whatever candy is going to tempt you the LEAST.  I know when candy is sitting around my house, I tend to nibble on it and that can be bad news.  So I avoid having chocolate around at all costs.  Since I like almost all candy, any candy that won't tempt me will probably be disgusting enough to make children cry (kids will run screaming or egg your house if you give them black licorice.  I speak from experience).  So, I usually opt to hand out candy that's not too high in fat or calories. Last years winners?  Dum Dums (lollipops), bubble gum & Smarties.  The kids were happy, and I got to enjoy some goodies, too.  Happy early Halloween!

Dear Hungry Girl,

I have a hankerin' for hot chicken wings.  I figure, since they're small, they can't be all that bad.  What's the 411 on wings?

-- Wing Man

Dear Wing Man,

I'm sorry to say, the news on wings is not good.  And although restaurants are now absurdly offering up wings as part of their "healthy" low carb menus (TGI Fridays even promises,  "Now, every day can taste like game day without leaving you looking like a lineman"),  most orders of these greasy diet-busters contain over 1,000 calories and 40-80 grams of fat!  Listen up!  Wings = bad for you.  Whether you're counting carbs or not, they're not a healthy choice.  Anyone can fry up chicken parts and make it have 5 carbs, but that doesn't mean it's good for you or diet-friendly.  Have skinless chicken breast instead.  If you want healthy chicken that TASTES like wings, just pull some white meat chicken from the bone, chop it up and mix it with Frank's Red Hot (the best bottled hot sauce--used in most chicken wing recipes).  It will taste 80 percent as good as wings...I promise!
