Arby's is promoting its Roastburger sandwich as "the burger done better." Well, we're taking the so-called "burger done better" and doing it MUCH better. Check it out...
Directions: Bring a pan sprayed with nonstick spray to medium heat. Split the roll into halves and lay it in the pan with the inside facing down. Carefully remove once it's as toasty as you like, after about 1 - 2 minutes.
Plate the toasted roll, inside facing up, and evenly spread the dressing onto both halves. Top the bottom half with lettuce, tomato, and onion. Set aside.
Remove the pan from the stove and re-spray with nonstick spray. Return pan to the stove and bring to medium-high heat. Cut bacon in half widthwise, sprinkle with pepper, and lay it flat in the pan. Cook until crispy, about 2 minutes on each side. Remove bacon from the pan and set aside.
Place roast beef in the pan and, stirring occasionally, cook until warm and browned, about 1 1/2 minutes.
Roughly chop the roast beef, if you like, or simply leave the slices whole. Place roast beef over the veggies on the bottom half of the roll. Add bacon and finish it off with the top half of the roll. Chow down!
HG Alternative! If you can't find Arnold Select/Brownberry/Oroweat Sandwich Thins, look for a similar product called Pepperidge Farm Deli Flats. And if you can't find that, use a light English muffin (one with 100 calories) instead.
Arby's Bacon & Bleu Roastburger
Wicked 'Wich
Dear Arby's,
We think it's admirable that you're promoting "better" eating these days. But it's definitely not better-for-you food that you're offering. Your Bacon & Bleu Roastburger has more fat and calories than a Carl's Jr. Big Hamburger, a BK Bacon Cheeseburger, or even a McDonald's Quarter Pounder. And as for the name... Roastburger? Let's be real, guys. It's just a roast beef sandwich. (What's burger-y about it?) Anyhow, we've made our own version of your beefy treat that includes all the important things (roast beef, real bacon...) and excludes the unnecessary stuff (oodles of excess fat and calories). In short, our sandwich can beat up your sandwich.
CHEW ON THIS: Heads up! Today, July 21st, may be National Junk Food Day, but as a loyal HG reader, you KNOW you can satisfy your cravings without breaking the calorie bank. Get your junk food fix with our new swap, the Blue Ribbon Roast Beef Sandwich. And maybe some Bake-tastic Butternut Squash Fries too...
