Nutty News You Can Use!

Walnuts can protect your heart.  Last week, the USDA stressed the need for consumers to be more aware of the benefit of including polyunsaturated fat in their diets and they specifically cited walnuts as a good choice.  Cardiovascular Surgeon Dr. Anderson Morris  says, "Walnuts are a very good source of antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids.  That's why I tell my patients that eating walnuts is like wearing a seat belt for your heart."  Sounds like you've got carte blanche to fling a few walnuts into those No Pudge! brownies.  Just don't go, um, NUTS.

This Week's Diet & Nutrition Buzz...

This week the government announced new health guidelines.  Basically they're saying we should add more fruits, veggies, whole grains to our diets -- and that lower calorie plans coupled with 30-90 minutes of exercise a day will promote better health.  Seems a bit obvious, no?  ***In a shocking turn of events, Kraft Foods has decided to curb their advertising of bad-for-you foods to kids 12 and under.  Does this mean the end of Spongebob Mac 'n' Cheese?  ***Snapple is introducing TWO new flavors of sugar free iced tea; Diet Plum-A-Granate Iced Tea and Diet Lemonade Iced Tea.  Along with these new flavors comes the return of "Wendy the Snapple Lady" whose voice will be heard in TV ads for these products.  ***Ryan Benson, the winner of NBC's "The Biggest Loser" has been offered a one-week gig -- as "Chief Dieting Officer" for Diet V8 Splash juice drink, helping choose new flavors and consulting on new diet regiments.  That's all we've got.  HG out!
