Hungry Girl's Hot Diggity Chili Dog
Hungry Girl's Hot Diggity Chili Dog

Everyone wants to break down and swallow a yummy chili dog every now and then.  And when you can make one at home that has so few calories and fat grams, you can enjoy it guilt-free!  No need to load up on fatty chili and calorie-packed pups when you can throw together your very own diet-friendly version.  One that is so low cal that you can chow down on TWO of 'em and still take in WAY fewer calories than you'd get from a regular chili dog.  Check out HG's special recipe below:

1 Hebrew National 97% Fat Free Hot Dog
2 Tbsp. Boca Meatless Chili
1 slice Wonder Light Wheat or White Bread (or another light bread with around 40 calories per slice)

Prepare the hot dog and the chili according to the package (or, in the case of the dog, however you like!).   Place hot dog inside bread and wrap the bread around it to form a "roll."  Top with Boca Meatless Chili, and voila, you have your AWESOME chili dog!

Wienerschnitzel All Beef Chili Dog
Wienerschnitzel All Beef Chili Dog

Wienerschnitzel's hot dog hero, The Delicious One (you know who he is.
He's the cute little hot dog dude running for his life in their commercials), doesn't have anything to worry about. Who'd want to eat the calorie-packed little guy, when they could eat a chili dog that has a fraction of the fat and calories at home?  Both dogs taste great, but they're WAY different as far as their nutritionals are concerned. While the HG dog has just 106 calories, the regular all beef dog weighs in at 380 calories. Uh, maybe The Delicious One should consider changing his name to The Fattening One.  In Weinerschnitzel's defense, though,  they do offer up a Healthy Choice Chili dog that has 235 calories and 5g of fat.  Not bad, but HG's version is much lower in fat and calories than even that one.  And it tastes better, too.

450 hot dogs are eaten every second of every day in the United States. Wow!

HG Heads Up!  We know hot dogs are high in sodium and contain nitrates. We are not suggesting that you eat hot dogs daily.  But hot dogs taste good, and every now and then it's ok to indulge.
