Barbara's Bakery Fruit & Yogurt Bar, Apple Cinnamon |
Pie, Oh My! |
We're not usually ones to pretend that some sort of bar can rival an actual slice of gooey fruit pie in the satisfaction department, but today is an exception. These chewy, applelicious offerings from Barbara's Bakery (famous for some of our fave PB finds) rock our world! The filling of these Fruit & Yogurt bars is made of apples and yogurt spiced with a bit of zippy cinnamon. It's the perfect blend of tartness and sweetness. But really, it's the outer layer of this bar that takes the cake (er...pie). It's made with whole grains and, with its chewy, subtly sweet taste, is the perfect substitute for pie crust. And these soft, delicious fruit pals contain 25% of your daily recommended dose of calcium. The bottom line? When you're jonesin' for pie, grab one of these instead. You'll be just as satisfied. And as for Barbara, we want to kidnap her and keep her all to ourselves... |

Apple Pie |

Bye, Bye, Pie! |
Crammed full of one of the healthiest fruits on the planet (apples), you'd think that a slice of apple pie would be one of the best dessert choices you could make. Well, turns out you'd be flat wrong. How bad is apple pie in the calorie and fat departments? Well, a typical SMALL slice will set you back about 350 calories and 18g of fat. As if that wasn't crazy enough, the average restaurant-sized slice of apple pie clocks in at around 850 calories and 50g of fat. Why so high? Well, not even apples are healthy when they're drenched in a glaze made of butter, cornstarch and sugar, and plopped into a lardy crust. Be strong, people. Ditch that pie and grab a Barbara's Bakery Apple Cinnamon Fruit & Yogurt Bar instead. |
