Chew for a cause... HG STYLE!!!

We know, we know, you’ve heard it a zillion times. One person can make a difference. All it takes is a single step. Yada yada... Uh huh... Right. However, there IS a reason that people say these things. THEY'RE TRUE! All those single people add up to millions, and when it comes to stamping out devastating problems like cancer and heart disease, those millions are vital. Good thing some of our favorite food brands have gotten the memo and amped up their efforts to help spread awareness. Good for your taste buds AND good for the world in general? Here are a few of HG’s current faves…

Yep, Yoplait’s campaign has been so successful over the past nine years (lids from 2006 alone raked in over $1 million!!), they decided to bring it back for another round! For every pink Yoplait lid mailed in, Save Lids to Save Lives donates 10 cents to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in order to fund the research that (we hope) will put an end to breast cancer. They'll donate up to $1.5 million -- let's make this year THE year!!! The campaign has already begun, and you have until Dec. 31st to send your lids in, so get ready to scour your supermarket’s shelves for pink-lidded yogurts and smoothies. Click here for more info. And don't forget, Yoplait Light is DELICIOUS and fat-free! One more thing... remember to crush your yogurt containers before tossing 'em -- doing so can help protect small animals.

Luna, the leading corporate sponsor of the Breast Cancer Fund, has created a special bar to honor the Fund’s mission: the BCF “identifies -- and advocates for the elimination of -- environmental and other preventable causes of the disease.” Throughout the years, Luna has given financial support to the BCF, sponsored events, and actively participated in the Fund's efforts to further people’s knowledge about this disease. It has now pledged its allegiance with a DELICIOUS new bar that's packed with disease-fighting antioxidants from foods such as red berries, blueberries, and almonds (giving it a nutty-berry kick). If the flavor and cause aren’t enough to sway you, consider this: the bar is BRIGHT PURPLE. The crazy color reminds you, loud and clear, that the force of breast cancer is not something to be taken lightly. Get the lowdown on Luna’s newest addition and their work with the BCF here.

General Mills’ newest Cheerios campaign will benefit women worldwide who are susceptible to heart disease (the entire female population). Here's how it works. On each participating box of Cheerios, there's a promotion code. Click here and type it into the space provided. Voila -- for each code entered, $1 will be donated to WomenHeart, which supports women living with heart disease. How can you say no to something so easy, especially when it gives you an excuse to eat something as good (and good for you!) as Cheerios? Yay!

We all know tea is good for you. But just to make extra sure the message gets out, our friends at Celestial Seasonings have TEAmed up with several organizations, including WomenHeart (they’re really getting around!), to help women make better beverage choices and simultaneously understand a bit more about the leading cause of death in young women: heart disease. Both of CS’s new teas, Vanilla Rose Decaf and Black Cherry Pomegranate, are made with all-natural, heart-healthy ingredients like black tea and pomegranate. And CS will donate a portion of proceeds from the sale of these teas to WomenHeart. To read more about this campaign, click here. Have a heart, and grab a box the next time you’re shopping!
September 14th is National Cream-Filled Donut Day. To celebrate, check out the low-fat offerings from Holey Donuts. Mmmmmm!
