Happy Creamsicle Day! It's truly a day worth celebrating. After all, who can
dispute the delicious duo that is orange and cream?! Here are a few ways to
integrate this flavor sensation into your world (and a few ways NOT to)...
Classic, chilly, 50/50 creations...
Dreyer's/Edy's Snack Size Fruit Bars, Orange & Cream - Just like the old-
school Creamsicles you loved as a kid -- but lower cal and smaller. These
each have real fruit juice on the outside (frozen, of course!) and super-light
ice cream on the inside. And the Lime and Raspberry flavors that come in the
pack aren't bad either. Each bar has just 45 calories, 0.5g fat, and 9g carbs
(POINTS® value 1*). BTW, their larger counterparts (all Orange & Creme in
those boxes) are also awesome with 80 calories, 1.5g fat, and 16g carbs
(POINTS® value 2*).
Healthy Choice Sorbet & Cream Bars - Here's another great frozen option,
grab a box of these. Both Orange AND Raspberry flavors come in the pack
(we'll let Raspberry tag along), and each has 90 calories, 1g fat, 17g carbs,
and 1g fiber (POINTS® value 2*).
PhillySwirl Swirl Stix - Now we're getting REALLY crazy... psychedelic even!
These little swirly bars come with 6 fun flavors in each box (including the
Creamsicle-inspired one, Orange Dream). And in addition to being cute, each
has only 48 calories, no fat and 11g carbs (POINTS® value 1*). Now THAT's
adorable! BTW, there are also Sugar Free Swirl Pops with 10 fat-free
calories, 4g carbs, and 1g fiber per pop (POINTS® value 0*). Sweet!
While you're in the freezer aisle, also check out...
Low Fat Creamsicles (1 pop = 70 calories, 1g fat, 13g carbs, 0g fiber --
POINTS® value 1*)
Weight Watchers GIANT Orange Sorbet & Ice Cream Bars (1 bar = 110
calories, 0.5g fat, 28g carbs, 3g fiber -- POINTS® value 2)
Dreyer's/Edy's Sherbet & Light Ice Cream, Orange Cream (1/2 cup = 120
calories, 2g fat, 23g carbs, 0g fiber -- POINTS® value 3*)
No Sugar Added Creamsicles (2 pops = 45 calories, 0.5g fat, 10g carbs, 2g
fiber -- POINTS® value 1*)
Sugar Free Creamsicles (2 pops = 40 calories, 0.5 - 2g fat, 10 - 12g carbs,
3 - 6g fiber -- POINTS® value 0*)
Creamsicle... Hold the Sicle
Check out these other Creamsicle-inspired options -- they won't melt!
Kellogg's Yogos Rollers, Orange Cream - We spotted these stripey snacks
and just had to include them! Unlike other fruit snacks, these have a nifty
streak of yogurty goodness running down the middle. Each roll has only 80
calories, 1.5g fat, and 18g carbs (POINTS® value 2*). Pssst... Thanks for the
Yoplait Light, Orange Crème - Here's a totally unique yogurt flavor. A
container of this stuff makes a great snack or dessert -- just 100 fat-free
calories, 19g carbs, and a POINTS® value of 2*. For added creamy
goodness, try mixing a small handful of white chocolate chips into it or
topping it with a generous squirt of Fat Free Reddi-wip (but maybe not both!).
Dole Fruit Parfait, Mandarins & Creme - Here's a brand-new Creamsicle
craving killer. A container of this cream 'n fruit fusion contains 110 calories,
3g fat, and 21g carbs (POINTS® value 2*). And mandarin O's happen to be
one of our FAVORITES (no offense, navel).
Orange You Glad We Warned You?
Take a peek at these shockers (and swaps)!
Watch OUT for Krispy Kreme's Oranges & Kreme Chiller. It packs a hefty 630
calories, 28g fat, and 92g carbs (POINTS® value 15*)... and that's for the
small size! If you ate TWO of their original glazed doughnuts, you'd
ACTUALLY take in far fewer calories. Instead of either of those crazy options,
opt for the Orange You Glad Chiller if you find yourself at the Double K -- a
12-oz. serving of that fruity sipper has only 180 calories, no fat, and 43g
carbs (POINTS® value 4*). Want it creamy? Just take it home and stir in
some Fat Free Reddi-wip!
DON'T think Jamba Juice is much better than K Kreme just because the place
doesn't serve fried dough -- it isn't. JJ's Orange Dream Machine may lack
major amounts of fat, but the Original size still feeds you 490 calories and
107g carbs! That's 101 grams of sugars and a POINTS® value of 10*.
EEEKS! For a creamy citrus fix made with pure OJ, try the 16-oz. Jamba Light
Mango Mantra instead -- only 160 calories, 0.5g fat and 34g carbs, plus 2g
fiber (POINTS® value 3*).
And in supermarket shocker news, the Sunkist Float packs in 260 calories,
1.5g fat, and (holy cannoli!) 64g carbs (POINTS® value 5*). For a small
bottle of SODA!?! Insanity! You're WAY better off with our Creamy Orange
Dreamfloat (see below!).
HG Saves the Day!
Creamy Orange Dreamfloat - This tall glass of joy is sooo easy to make.
Throw together a round and astonish orange 'n cream lovers EVERYWHERE
(or at least those within sipping distance). Only 60 calories and a POINTS®
value of 1* per glass. Yippee!
Orange Creamsicle Martini - If you're in the mood for a grown-up variation of
the Creamsicle (and you're not driving!), make yourself one of these! Just
109 calories and a POINTS® value of 2* (and only around 8 calories and a
POINTS® value of 0* for the virgin version!).
If you REALLY want to get your Creamsicle fix on, whip up a bowl of Maris's
Big Bowl O' Blob Orange 'n Cream Dessert and feed a few friends too. This
thing was created by an HG staffer's mom, and doesn't Mom always make
the best desserts? One ginormous serving has only 50 calories and a
POINTS® value of 1*. Woohoo!
