Spotted On Shelves...
Portion-Controlled Quakes - If you're the type who can't help but scarf down
the entire multi-serving bag of Quaker Quakes Rice Snacks, you'll LOVE this
find. You can now get a ginormous sack (or an even larger box!) stuffed with
oodles of individually packaged bags -- half of them full of Caramel Corn
Quakes and half of 'em with Cheddar Cheese ones. You get about 12 Quakes
per bag for 90 - 100 calories, 0.5 - 3g fat, 14 - 23g carbs, 0g fiber, and 1g
protein (POINTS® value 2*). Quake it up, baby!
Del Monte 50% Less Salt Vegetables - Love the convenience of canned foods
but not all the sodium? Check out this new line of canned veggies from Del
Monte. With just 180 - 190mg sodium per 1/2-cup serving, these have more
flavor than no-salt-added versions with a lot less sodium than regular canned
veggies. In Whole Kernel Corn, Sweet Peas, and Cut Green Beans, a 1/2 cup
contains 20 - 60 calories, 0 - 1g fat, 4 - 11g carbs, 2 - 4g fiber, and 1 - 3g
protein (POINTS® value 0 - 1*). Nice!
Pepperidge Farm 100 Calorie Pouches of Soft Baked Oatmeal Raisin
Cookies - Not sure if these are new or not, but they're definitely worth
mentioning. Each pouch serves up around 10 bite-sized cookies for 100
calories, 3g fat, 16g carbs, <1g fiber, and 2g protein (POINTS® value 2*).
We love cute, little, soft, chewy things in calorie-controlled packs. And these
are soooo good!
Soup Wars... Heating Up (No Pun Intended)
We CANNOT believe what's going on in the world of soup. Here's a brief
recap. Progresso launches a line of light soups in 2007. Fast-forward about a
year (to last month)... the folks at Campbell's launch a line of copycat soups
and come out SWINGING with ads that boast how much healthier their light
soups are and how theirs don't contain MSG. The Progresso peeps, who had
been minding their own beeswax (and who incidentally have the far better
tasting light soup line), have no choice but to point out that while Campbell's
LIGHT soups are MSG-less, 95 (yes, NINETY-FIVE) of Campbell's OTHER
soups DO in fact currently contain MSG. So, with the two companies ripping
each other to shreds in ad campaigns, people FREAK out, and soup sales go
down. Which brings us to the latest news of all! Progresso has announced
that they are phasing MSG out of ALL of their soups. YAY! GREAT NEWS!
What will happen next? Will Campbell's follow suit and ditch MSG from its 95
soups that contain it? Will the nastiness and spoon-pointing ever stop? Only
time will tell. In the meantime, the Progresso folks are so sure you'll love the
taste of their soups that they're offering coupons and a money-back
guarantee. Click here for more on that.
