ASK HUNGRY GIRL

Dear HG,

So, condiments are sort of my favorite thing ever. What are your top picks for condiments that I can eat with anything and everything?

Cuckoo for Condiments

Hey Cuckoo,

Hungry Girl's Favorite Low-Calorie Condiments
Condiments can be tricky! Some -- like full-fat mayo and regular sour cream -- can cause the calorie count of your meal to skyrocket. Others are completely guilt-free and can really zazzle things up. Here are some top picks...

Green-Light Basics - In the worry-free condiment zone, stock up on these staples: ketchup (Heinz is the best), vinegars (balsamic, seasoned rice, etc.), salsa (regular, fruity, and southwestern), and mustard (yellow, honey, and more)! BBQ sauce is also great -- just look for ones with 45 calories or less per 2-tbsp. serving. As for mayo, go for the fat-free or light kind. And instead of standard sour cream, try fat-free Greek yogurt. It works perfectly as a swap!

HG All-Stars - There are three condiments that are ALWAYS in my house and at the HG HQ. Frank's RedHot (Original) is perfect for making anything taste like Buffalo wings (click for proof!), and it's basically calorie-free. Newman’s Own Lite Low Fat Sesame Ginger dressing has amazing flavor and only 35 calories and 1.5g fat per 2-tbsp. serving. And Hellmann's/Best Foods Dijonnaise is like the delicious love child of Dijon mustard and creamy mayo. It tastes SO rich, yet it has just 5 fat-free calories per teaspoon!

Show Stoppers - There are several exceptional condiments that are worth seeking out. Heinz makes a ketchup that's blended with jalapeños, and Traina has a sun-dried tomato option that is out of this world! Mustard lovers will flip for Saucy Mama’s lineup, and Vivi’s Original Sauce is tangy and unlike anything else I've ever tasted. One of our new favorite finds at Hungryland is Slawsa, which is a delicious combo of slaw and salsa with a sweet, tangy flavor. Each of these has 20 calories or less per tablespoon.

There you have it, some of my favorite condiments. Looking for a few more? Check out the Sauces, Salad Dressings & Shelf-Stable Condiments section of the official HG supermarket list!

Hi HG,

Any advice on choosing a multivitamin or other supplements? I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff!

Vitamin Val

Hi Val,

Best-Tasting Vitamins (Hungry Girl Favorites)
Multivitamins are a great way to supplement your diet. I'm not a big fan of choking down a huge dry pill (really, who is?), so I tend to go with gummy vitamins (like the kinds by Nature Made), melts (VitaMelts ROCK), and chewables (like Flavor Burst Chews from Centrum). They taste great, which I love!

But since I'm not a nutrition professional, I turned to my favorite dietitian, David Grotto, RDN, LDN, for his top tips on this subject. When it comes to picking a multivitamin, he recommends looking for an option that's both gender and age specific, since it'll be better tailored to meet your needs than other vitamins. And consider taking an omega-3 fish oil supplement, unless you're eating salmon (or other sources of omega-3s) two to three times a week. He also suggests talking to an RD or doctor to discuss specific dietary-supplement recommendations for your individual health needs. (Thanks, Dave!)

In addition to my favorites, here are a couple of fun finds. These kid-friendly supplements from Voots are made from a blend of real fruits and veggies. And Vita Rocks are like the Pop Rocks of the vitamin world. Fun, fun, fun!
