Let Your Treat Flag Fly!

There's nothing like an easy-to-make dessert that'll impress your friends and please your taste buds, without costing you excessive amounts of fat and calories. This layered dessert is both beautiful AND delicious -- just right for that Fourth of July cookout!

One 8-oz. container Cool Whip Free (thawed)
1 sugar-free vanilla pudding snack with 60 calories or less (like the kind by Jell-O)
Half of a 13-oz. angel food cake, cut into 1-inch cubes (about 5 cups cubed), or HG Alternative
2 cups chopped strawberries
2 cups blueberries
2 cups raspberries

In a medium-large bowl, thoroughly fold pudding into Cool Whip.

In a large glass bowl (or trifle dish, if you've got one), evenly layer half of each ingredient: cubed angel food cake, Cool Whip mixture, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

Repeat layering with remaining ingredients. Serve, or chill until ready to serve!

HG Alternative: If you can't find a 13-oz. angel food cake, look for a similar size. Otherwise, get any size angel food cake and use 5 cups cubed cake.

A Triflin' Friend Indeed...

Don't be fooled by its patriotic colors, fruity contents, and seemingly light fluffiness. This classic layered party dessert is typically loaded with gross amounts of fat and calories. Heavy ingredients like pound cake, pudding made with whole milk, full-fat whipped cream, mascarpone cheese, and too much darn sugar can easily cause this treat's nutritional stats to skyrocket. The only things we want to see skyrocket on the Fourth are fireworks. Luckily, this dish is so, so easy to lighten up! Our recipe calls for angel food cake, sugar-free pudding, fat-free whipped topping, and lots and lots of fresh 'n fruity berries. It's simple to make, beautiful to look at, and delicious to consume! The only thing you'll have to worry about is what to do with the leftovers... Oh, who are we kidding? Bring this to a party, and there won't be any leftovers... Happy Fourth of July!!!
