Orange You Excited for This Swap?

Time to devour some gooey-good, buttery-blissful orange deliciousness! We skipped the fussy pinwheel assembly, and whipped up easy crescent rolls you'll flip for. Let the sun shine in...

Cool: 20 minutes

1 1/2 tbsp. orange marmalade

1 1/2 tbsp. dark brown sugar (not packed)
1 tsp. light whipped butter or light buttery spread (like Brummel & Brown), room temperature
Dash salt

1 package refrigerated Pillsbury Reduced Fat Crescent roll dough

1/4 cup powdered sugar (not packed)
1 1/2 tsp. freshly squeezed orange juice
1 tsp. orange zest

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick spray.

In a medium bowl, thoroughly mix all filling ingredients until uniform.

Separate dough into its eight triangle-shaped portions. One at a time, stretch or roll each triangle out slightly, making it into a larger triangle.

Evenly distribute and spread filling among the triangles, avoiding the edges. Beginning at the base, tightly roll up each triangle over the filling. Place on the baking sheet, evenly spaced.

Bake until golden brown, 12 - 15 minutes.

Let cool completely.

In a small bowl, combine icing ingredients, and stir until smooth. Drizzle icing over cooled rolls.

Breakfast and brunch can be dangerous affairs, since it's more than socially acceptable to have dessert-level sweets first thing in the morning. And while citrusy treats might seem safer than brownies and cake, the truth is that they can be just as bad. People: Orange sweet rolls are pretty much just oversized hunks of buttery dough wrapped around sugary filling that's then drowned in more sugary stuff! Of course we would never be so callous as to suggest swearing off sweet pastries altogether (we're not monsters!), but we DO have a suggested course of action. Step 1: Make our slimmed-down swap. Step 2: Have one as part of a balanced breakfast (with an egg mug, perhaps?), as a sweet-tooth-satisfying snack, or as an after-meal dessert. Who wins? You do!
