WEEKLY WEIGH-IN

Special K Chocolatey Delight
(3/4 cup: 120 calories, 2g fat, 180mg sodium, 25g carbs, 1g fiber, 9g sugars,
2g protein = 2 Points)

They say honesty is the best policy, so here goes. We don't get the whole
chocolate cereal thing. There, we said it. We know chocolate is being touted
as a health food and all that jazz, but we think sticking it in breakfast cereal
is a bit of a stretch. Still we were willing to try it, thinking if it works, GREAT,
another way to kill a chocolate craving. Unfortunately, it doesn't. The flakes
in this stuff are basically regular Special K flakes, but they taste like they
were ever so slightly dusted with some sort of fake chocolate flavoring
(reminiscent of a scratch 'n sniff sticker). And the "chocolatey" pieces are
even worse. They're completely waxy, and fall to the bottom of the bowl. The
ones that do make it into your mouth get stuck in your teeth. What can we
say, this stuff doesn't work. Sorry, Special K, we still looooove so many of
your other products (like Special K Red Berries and your insanely amazing
Vanilla Snack Bites), but we have a hard time believing this stuff passed any
internal taste tests. Better luck next time.

Overall Score: 5. You'd likely be better off tossing a teaspoon of chocolate
chips into regular old Special K.

South Beach Diet Wraps, Chicken Monterey
(1 wrap: 220 calories, 7g fat, 460mg sodium, 26g carbs, 6g fiber, 4g sugars,
16g protein = 4 Points)

While we can't speak for the other wraps in this new line (we've heard mixed
reviews and haven't tried 'em), the new South Beach Diet Chicken Monterey
Wrap is pretty awesome! Diced chicken, reduced fat monterey and
mozzarella cheeses, bell peppers, red onions and tomatoes -- all doused in a
creamy dijon mustard sauce and wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla -- makes
for a super-fun and delicious way to spend 220 calories! Honestly, the sauce
doesn't really taste mustardy at all -- it actually tastes like a sweet, hot sort
of Russian dressing and it's FANTASTIC! HG Cooking Tip: Instead of heating
these in the plastic pouch as recommended, try nuking 'em wrapped in a
paper towel. We find it makes 'em less soggy that way.

Overall Score: 8.5. A great high-fiber snack or mini-meal!

Keebler Right Bites, Fudge Shoppe Grasshopper Fudge Dipped Mint Cookies
(1 pouch: 100 calories, 3.5g fat, 70mg sodium, 14g carbs, 1g fiber, 5g
sugars, 2g protein = 2 Points)

In general, we're not huge fans of chocolate mint (it's like chomping into a
chocolate bar right after you've brushed your teeth; admit it!). But we know
so many of you love it, so it's our duty to bring you information and reviews
on the latest in the world of mint and chocolate anyway (yeah, we're nice).
These particular 100-calorie packs of Grasshopper cookies are actually
pretty great. Not overly sweet and with a lovely chocolate crunch, they taste
almost exactly like those Thin Mint cookies those pushy Girl Scouts thrust
upon us every year (it's a little joke... we LOVE Girl Scouts... calm down).
And you get 14 of these fudge-dipped treats in every pouch, which means
that each one only has around 7 calories -- impressive! As far as chocolate
mint goes, these are as good as it gets!

Overall Score: 8. Very good. But still, it's chocolate and mint.

Handi-Snacks Mister Salty Pretzels 'n Cheez
(1 pack: 90 calories, 3.5g fat, 380mg sodium, 12g carbs, 0g fiber, 1g sugars,
3g protein = 2 Points)

Yeah, we know these things are sort of icky and full of sodium and even
preservatives, but sometimes you need a low-calorie snack when you're on
the go -- either in a car, plane, or at the office. That's when these Handi-
Snacks come in, well, handy! Each snack pack has around 6 pretzels and a
mini little pile of cheesy goo to dunk 'em in. The whole thing is sort of
satisfying -- peeling the plastic off the top, dipping the pretzels into the
cheese -- and of course there's the eating part (which is always fun!). Not
bad for 90 calories.

Overall Score: 7. Yeah they're slightly scary and will NEVER be put into our
regular rotation, but every now and then, these aren't a bad snack. Too bad
there are only 6 in the package.

Chew on This:
Tomorrow, February 9th, is National Bagels & Lox Day. The Omega-3s found
in smoked salmon have been known to stabilize moods and lift spirits. But
instead of a regular bagel, enjoy your fish on a Western Bagel Alternative
Bagel or some high-fiber crackers.
