NEWS

Holey Moley... Lots of Donut News!!!

We've been drooling (from a distance!) over Rachael Ray's decadent, high-
calorie dishes for quite a while now, but we are thrilled to report that she's
going Hungry Girl on us (perhaps we've turned her into a lover of guilt-free
foods). The Rach has signed a deal with Dunkin' Donuts to help create better-
for-you options at the donut chain. We're looking forward to seeing what the
Double R and the Double D conjure up. If you're impatient and can't wait
months or years to try a "healthier" donut, check out Holey Donuts, a NY-
based operation that specializes in super-low-fat donuts in all sorts of
insanely delicious flavors and varieties. Our fave is their kooky Donut on a
Stick. A word of warning -- while low in fat, these donuts still aren't exactly
low-cal, so be careful not to get too crazy with 'em. They're hard to resist
(and don't say you weren't warned). And worry not; when Rachel's DD items
hit the market, we'll be here with the 411.

Look...BOOKS!

Yes, we read things other than nutrition labels sometimes. Check out these
new books...

Fashionably Buff: Essential Workouts for Looking Great in Anything You
Wear - Our friend Sue Fleming (author of Buff Brides and exercise guru
behind all the other Buff Fitness stuff) is back, and she's telling you how to
look better/hotter/slimmer in anything and everything you put on your body.
You'll find body-part-specific workouts, style secrets and more!

The No Time to Lose Diet: The Busy Person's Guide to Permanent Weight
Loss - FitTV's diet doc, Dr. Melina Jampolis, insists EVERYONE has time to eat
right, exercise and lose weight -- no matter how busy they are. Her book
tells you how!

Guide to Healthy Fast-Food Eating - When it comes to fast food, we need all
the help we can get. And this handy dandy pocket-sized book from the
American Diabetes Association may help you make smarter decisions in a
pinch. It contains menus and nutritional info for 13 national fast food chains,
including BK, KFC, McDonald's, Papa John's, Domino's, Pizza Hut, Starbucks,
Subway, Wendy's and Taco Bell.

The Calorie King Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter 2007 Edition - This is a
must-have full of nutritional breakdowns for 11,000 foods, including ones
from 200 fast food chains and restaurants, carnival foods, international foods
and more. If you loooooove finding out nutritional info, you'll really dig this
one!

HOT Ice Cream Finds...Guilt-Free, Of Course!

HG spied these new ice cream treats...just in time for the warm(er) weather!

Dreyer's/Edy's Loaded Frozen Dairy Dessert - Fully stacked and packed with
tons of mix-ins (like cookie dough, Oreo-ish cookies, brownies, etc.), this
frozen dessert has officially freaked us out. Why? Because there's no
mention ANYWHERE of it being "light" or "low" or "reduced" -- yet, for the
most part, it's got calorie counts and fat stats similar to their Slow Churned
Light Ice Creams. Interesting note -- this stuff is called "frozen dairy dessert"
(not ice cream) and the first ingredient listed is skim milk. Click here for
more info, full nutritionals and a list of flavors. (PssstÂ…we've tried several
flavors and they're head-explodingly delicious.)

Klondike Slim-a-Bear 100 Calorie Sandwiches - These slightly smaller
versions of those all-too-familiar round chocolate-cookie ice cream
sandwiches are PERFECT. They have just 100 calories and 1.5g of fat each,
and they manage to pack in 2 - 3g of fiber apiece, too. Find these 2-Point
treats in both Vanilla and Chocolate versions. That skinny polar bear sure
knows his stuff!

The Skinny Cow Mini Fudge Pops - If you're in the market for a lower cal
fudge pop, check out these skinny minis! Each one has just 50 calories and a
single gram of fat. Not bad! (And what is it with these hefty mammals and
their weight loss?!)

Breyers Double Churned 100 Calorie Cups - In two flavors (Vanilla Fudge
Swirl and Cookies & Cream), these perfectly portioned cups are satisfying
and delicious. These are FANTASTIC for anyone who can't be trusted around
quarts (or even pints) of ice cream.

The Buzz...

Ok, we were wrong. We thought maybe Subway would hold onto their high-
fiber flour tortillas (120 calories, 8g fiber!) as a bread swap, even though
they ditched their low-carb wraps. They didn't. Now their only tortilla option is
their 190-calorie, 1-gram-of-fiber one. That makes us sad. We can all sit and
whine about it, or we can take action. We vote for ACTION! Click here to
email Subway and beg them to bring back the lower cal high-fiber tortilla.
Oh, please remember to be nice and tell them how much you love Subway,
too! ***Artichokes are an antioxidant-packed superfood. We LOVE 'em -- so
much so that we find ourselves sporting Artichoke Apparel every now and
then (yeah, we're geeks, but T-shirts with artichokes on them are sorta
funny!). ***Weight Watchers recently announced the launch of Weight
Watchers Online for Men and eTools for Men. The men's version of WW
Online will have more male-centric info and imagery, plus tips from guys who
have successfully lost weight on WW. Pass this info on to anyone and
everyone you know who may be interested -- it's important! ***We're
getting serious with you for a minute -- March of Dimes WalkAmerica kicks
off at the end of this month. This event is raising funds to find causes of and
ways to help deal with premature birth (the #1 cause of newborn death). So
click here to see how you can help by finding a local team and walking (you'll
burn extra calories, too -- an added bonus!). That's all we've got. HG out!
