NEWS

Zero-Point Soup Alert!!!!

Here's some super (or should we say SOUP-er) exciting news for you. While
we were at the FMI Show (a huge food event in Chicago) YESTERDAY, we
learned that Progresso will soon introduce "Progresso Light", an entire line of
Weight Watchers endorsed soups. There will be FIVE veggie-licious varieties
in all -- and they are as follows (drumroll, please): Italian-Style Vegetable,
Vegetable and Noodle, Savory Vegetable Barley, Homestyle Vegetable and
Rice, and Southwestern-Style Vegetable. A serving of each will have just 60
calories, contain less than 1g of fat and pack in 4 grams of fiber. That means
these soups will technically have ZERO POINTS per serving and only 2 Points
for an entire can. This could very well be the most exciting soup news the
world has ever seen. The only thing is, you'll have to wait 'til August to
try 'em. Good thing it'll be too hot to think about 'em before then...

Popsicle Slow Melt Pops - This sounds like something straight out of Willy
Wonka's world but it's not. We'd expect to find slow-melting pops right up
there with fizzy lifting drinks and lickable fruity-flavored wallpaper -- but this
isn't some crazy fantasy, people. These are actual long-lasting ice pops that
eliminate the need to inhale your entire Popsicle in ten seconds flat on a hot
day. No more super-melty treats that leak sugary drippings on your cute T-
shirts, people. Plus they're fat-free with just 40 calories per pop (1 Point).
YAY! (Oh, they're great for kids, too!)

A Healthy Bagel? - If you're anything like us you typically run screaming
from bagels (ok, sometimes we just ignore them instead of yelling) -- but
you may have to give holey b-fast bread another chance now that Lender's
New York Style 100% Whole Wheat Bagel has been chosen as one of the
best breakfast foods of 2007 by Health Magazine. The doughy delight beat
out other bagels because it has 11 grams of protein & 10 grams of fiber! It
does contain 270 calories (5 Points), but it's a BAGEL so what did you
expect? If you are gonna splurge on a bagel, it may as well be one that has
lots of protein and fiber, right?

The Buzz...

PAY ATTENTION!!! Campbell's Soup and the U.S. Postal Service will join
forces this Saturday, May 12th, for the nation's largest single-day food drive.
All you need to do is leave a sturdy bag containing nonperishable food (like
canned stuff, rice or cereal) next to your mailbox prior to your regular mail
pick-up on 5/12 (just be sure to check that your local post office is
participating). Help stamp out hunger! Click here for all the details and do not
forget this VERY important day! ***After three years of planning and
prepping, KFC FINALLY came through; their fried chicken now has 0 grams of
trans fat per serving. Don't be fooled into thinking it has fewer calories or fat
grams -- it doesn't -- but ridding itself of icky trans fats is definitely a start.
Nice going, Colonel! ***Ever wonder what a 300-calorie meal looks like? This
handy website will show you. It's a GREAT way to help you determine what
realistic serving sizes look like. Heads up! ***New research shows that
pistachios may actually aid in lowering cholesterol. Read more about that
nutty news here. Well, that's all we've got. HG out!
