NEWS

Spotted on Shelves...

Kellogg's Eggo Special K 99% Fat Free Waffles - These low-calorie waffles
(only 60 each!) aren't new, but they ROCK. An entire 3-waffle serving has
just 1 gram of fat and a POINTS® value of 4*. We love 'em so much, we
used 'em in our fancy loaded waffle recipe swap (but you'll have to wait 'til
tomorrow to see it!).

Nature Valley Granola Bites - The peeps at Nature Valley have jumped on
the 100-calorie bus (it's standing room only on that thing!). They've turned
their crunchy bars into itty bitty granola bites and stuffed 'em in small 100-
calorie bags. These are great as an on-the-go snack, with yogurt, or even
mixed into cereal. Yum!

Pacific Foods Premium Artisan Inspired Organic Soups - These are the first
organic soups to feature USDA-certified organic beef, chicken and pork. We
can't wait to try the following, which each have 200 calories or less for an
entire can -- Beef Steak & Fusilli Pasta, Chicken & Penne Pasta, Minestrone
with Beef Steak, and Savory Chicken & Wild Rice. There are oodles of other
kinds in the line, too -- most have pretty decent nutritionals, but be sure to
check individual nutritional labels. We LOVE soup!

Is BK Getting Healthy?

Imagine a fast-food world where fries are made of apples, chicken tenders
are free of grease, and a kids meal clocks in at 305 calories. WOWOWOW...
sounds like an HG dream come true!!! Not a dream, people. Last week
Burger King announced plans to add a slew of way-healthy kid-friendly stuff
to their menu. Here's a taste of what could be on the way...

Flame-Broiled Chicken Tenders - 145 calories and 6g fat per chick-tastic 4-
piece serving. AWESOME!

BK Fresh Apple Fries - A 35-calorie serving of apples cut to look like fries and
served in a french fry box called a Frypod. Super-cute!!!

Calorie-Friendly Kids Meals - Flame-broiled tenders, organic applesauce, and
low-fat milk -- all totaling just 305 calories and 8.5 grams of fat. BINGO!

The new additions will target the under-12 set, but we can almost guarantee
there'll be gazillions of HG subscribers flocking to Burger King to try that stuff
out -- especially those 145-calorie chicken tenders. Expect this stuff to roll
out this coming spring. Thanks, BK!!!

Stuff You Didn't Know You Needed...

Twirling Spaghetti Fork - Or in our case, Twirling Shirataki Fork! Perhaps this
is exactly what our Tofu Shirataki needs... a twirling fork to help tame those
unwieldy things?! Fettuccine Hungry Girlfredo will be more fun than EVER...
Weeeeee!

Bath Burger Gift Pack - Here's a burger that calorie-counters (even
vegetarian ones!) can enjoy. It's a fast-food bath-time extravaganza,
complete with a deluxe burger sponge, lemon mustard-seed body scrub,
mango mayo body lotion, and strawberry ketchup shower gel. French fry
soap sticks sold separately. (OK, the fries don't really exist, but they SO
should!).

Cordless Warming Tray - Here's one for the girl who has everything (or the
girl who has a super-long walk from the kitchen to her serving locale!). This
thing heats up fast and stays hot for an hour. Cool!

The Buzz...

Can eggs and certain green veggies protect your eyes? New research shows
that specific nutrients found in foods like spinach and eggs could reduce the
risk of macular degeneration (an irreversible condition that leaves millions of
Americans blind) in older adults. Lutein and zeaxanthin (found in spinach,
kale, collard greens, romaine lettuce, broccoli, and more) MAY be able to
help prevent it. Click here for more. ***A federal judge has tossed out the
ruling requiring NY fast-food restaurants (ones with nutritional info already
available to the public) to post nutritional information on their menus, stating
that it conflicted with federal law. The good news? He actually suggested
expanding the rule to include MORE restaurants, for a better shot at making
it legal. Click for more details. ***This week is National Eat Dinner Together
Week. Get the details on this pork-supported event here, and remember to
enjoy some quality time with your family over the next few days. ***Coming
soon... PMS chocolate?! This botanical-infused stuff promises to help combat
your symptoms with its inclusion of things like white willow bark (a pain
reliever), artichoke leaf (reduces bloating) and chasteberry (which can help
control mood swings). All that for 70 calories per mini chocolate bar (which
they recommend you chew THREE times a day). Can three tiny chocolate
bars a day REALLY do all that?! Hmmmm... sounds fishy to us, but if you
need an excuse to down some chocolate, this could be it. That's all we've
got. HG out!
