GIRLS BITE OUT

No need to be scared of this calorie-crazed, candy-packed holiday. We've got
ALL the info & advice you need to know right here...

Size Matters!

Those downsized candy bars given out at Halloween usually don't have room
for nutritional labels. Boo! (FYI -- we're sad, not trying to scare you.) No
worries, though. Here are the highlights on those reduced-in-size snacks...

* Don't kid yourself into thinking that eating a few small-sized candy bars is
better than ripping open a full-sized bar. Research shows that you're likely to
take in MORE calories and fat if you snack on the smaller sweets rather than
the regular-sized ones.

* Snack Size & Fun Size bars are similar, both weighing in at a little more
than a half-ounce. Depending on the candy type, most clock in with 70 - 100
calories and 3 - 6 grams of fat apiece.

* Miniatures are the extra-small squares -- those babies are each about a
quarter-ounce in weight. One Miniature bar typically has 40 - 65 calories and
2 - 3 grams of fat.

* If you're gonna indulge, keep it simple. Chocolate bars with nuts, caramel,
peanut butter and toffee pack in the most fat and calories. The best of the
candy bunch? Light 'n airy Milky Way and 3 Musketeers bars. A Milky Way
Mini has about 38 calories and 1.4g fat, and a Fun Size one has 75 calories
and 3g fat. A 3 Musketeers Mini has just 24 calories and 0.7g fat, and the Fun
Size version contains 63 calories and 2g fat.

* A Tootsie Roll Midgee has 23 calories and a half-gram of fat. An individually
wrapped Twizzler has 40 calories and only 0.25g fat. A roll of Smarties
serves up 25 fat-free calories. And each Mini AirHeads bar has just around
45 calories and a half-gram of fat.

Halloween Helpful Hints

HG's tricks to get you through treat season...

Stock UP on Sweet Snacks - You read right! The best way to avoid tempting
Halloween sweets is definitely NOT to clear your kitchen of all candy and
chocolate -- do that, and you'll probably wind up feeling deprived and
ravaging your kid's candy sack in the middle of the night. Instead, keep all
your favorite guilt-free goodies on hand so you can celebrate this sweet
holiday HG style! We recommend CocoaVia bars, Fiber One Chewy Bars,
Vertigo Pops, sugar-free gummi candies, and Tootsie Roll Pops! Just
remember not to overeat the stuff.

Pass Out Stuff You’d Pass On - Resist the urge to buy a ginormous bag of
your favorite candy to hand out to trick-or-treaters. You'll only end up eating
too much of it. So if you're not a candy corn fan, give those sugary snacks to
this year's doorknockers. If you LOVE chocolate, hand out fruity lollipops
instead... you get the picture.

Be a Rebel - Where is it written that every homeowner and renter must
sacrifice their day, dollars and diet to play slave to a ringing doorbell? We're
fairly certain your pint-sized neighbors will have plenty of candy to chew
even if you skip the festivities and plan your own night of fun. Or you can
leave a big bowl of candy outside and head out to the movies (just know that
the first group of trick-or-treaters may very well take ALL of it -- we're SO
cynical!).
