Hungry Girl Today: 11.15.07

WEEKLY WEIGH-IN

We chewed & slurpped things... now we're telling all!

Mishima All Natural Edamame Soup, Soybean and Potato

PER SERVING (1 packet, approx. 2/3 of a cup prepared): 50 calories, 1g fat,

320mg sodium, 7g carbs, 0g fiber, 5g sugars, 3g protein -- POINTS® value

1*

Truth be told, soup from a packet doesn't typically excite us, but since we

LOVE both edamame (aka soybeans) AND potatoes, we were sorta psyched

when this stuff showed up at the HG HQ. So we reached for our favorite mug,

poured the powder, added water, stirred, sipped and INSTANTLY fell in love.

This soup is creamy and potatoey, and it has actual pieces of edamame

floating in it. WOW -- what a fun, FAST, delicious snack. These packets are

easily stored in your desk at work, and while the 50-calorie portion isn't

huge, it makes for a satisfying midday treat. YAY! Look for 'em in the Asian

foods aisle of the supermarket, or snag some online. (One thing, though --

DO NOT confuse this soup with the Green Tea and Potato soup that Mishima

offers. That stuff tastes like a melted face masque... EWWWW!)

Overall score: 8.5. As good as just-add-water soup can be!

Funky Monkey Freeze-Dried Fruit, Jivealime

PER SERVING (1 package): 110 calories, 0g fat, 1mg sodium, 27g carbs, 2g

fiber, 20g sugars, 1g protein -- POINTS® value 2*

We're suckers for all things cute, and these Funky Monkey fruit snacks are

off-the-charts adorable. Everything from their shiny, colorful packaging to

their kooky musical website screams FUN! But the crunchy fruit bits scream

YUM! They come in all sorts of tasty and wacky flavors, but our favorite is

Jivealime, which is basically freeze-dried pineapple with lime juice. It's sweet

and pineappley, with a nice tart lime kick. Awesome! Crush these up and

mix 'em into your yogurt or oatmeal, or sprinkle 'em on top of low-fat ice

cream. Or just gobble 'em straight from the bag. Look for 'em at Kroger

supermarkets or score some on Amazon. Go Funky Monkey, go!

Overall score: 8. Our new freeze-dried fruity friend!

Amy's Texas Burger

PER SERVING (1 burger): 120 calories, 2.5g fat, 350mg sodium, 14g carbs,

3g fiber, 2g sugars, 12g protein -- POINTS® value 2*

We spend so much time RAVING about Amy's soups and various and sundry

frozen entrees and snacks, that we sometimes forget they have a whole line

of veggie burgers. So to get reacquainted with them, we ran out and bought

a box of Texas Burgers and got busy with our grill pan. Let's start out by

saying that pretty much EVERYTHING Amy's puts out is effortlessly delicious.

SOMEONE over at that company has EXCELLENT taste buds (and coming

from us, that's a huge compliment). It's as if they make all their foods taste

good without even trying (not sure if that makes sense or not, but it's truly

how we feel). These burgers are certainly no exception. Described

as "barbecue flavor", these patties are sweet, smoky, and even a little nutty

(they contain walnuts). All we can say is MMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!! WOW...

this burger has quickly become our current veggie patty fave. If you haven't

tried these and you're a fan of veggie patties, grab a box of these things

ASAP. (BTW, we've found that Whole Foods typically has the best selection.)

You'll thank us.

Overall score: 9.5. It would've gotten a perfect 10 if it were slightly larger.

Ken's Steak House Lite Accents Honey Mustard Vinaigrette

PER SERVING (10 sprays): 10 calories, 0g fat, 95mg sodium, 2g carbs, 0g

fiber, 2g sugars, 0g protein -- POINTS® value 0*

We knew it was only a matter of time before someone ripped off Wish-Bone's

insanely BRILLIANT, one-calorie-per-spritz, sprayable salad dressings. In

fact, we would have thought there'd be a handful of copycats by now. There

aren't. There's only one -- and that's the line put out by Ken's Steak House.

Because our hearts belong to Wish-Bone, we were hesitant to try Ken's

versions, but we went for his Honey Mustard Vinaigrette (since Wish-Bone

doesn't make a similar flavor, we didn't exactly feel like we were cheating

on 'em). Great job! This dressing is sweet and tangy, with a perfect honey

mustard kick, which is EXCITING, considering the whole one-calorie-per-

spray thing. We'd buy this again and try the other flavors, too. (Okay, we

can't lie -- we tried and loved Ken's Raspberry Walnut version as well.) Yay!

Overall score: 9. WE HEART LOW-CALORIE SPRAY DRESSINGS!!!
