Hungry Girl Today: 05.05.08

Spotted on Shelves

Lean Pockets, Spinach Artichoke Chicken - If you like warm, microwavable,
puffy sandwich pockets, you might want to check out the latest from Lean
Pockets. This one (with 260 calories, 7g fat, 2g fiber, and a POINTS® value
of 5*) is stuffed with grilled white meat chicken, artichokes, low-fat cheese,
and spinach. Yum!

Sevan Foods Thin Crust Pizza, Spicy Spinach - This all-natural, personal-size,
Mediterranean pizza is cheese-free, flavor-packed, and thin yet deliciously
doughy -- it tastes INCREDIBLE and has 140 calories, 2g fat, and 2g fiber

seeking out. Heads up! A VERY similar product (with similar stats) is being
sold at Trader Joe's.

Mott's Plus No Sugar Added Applesauce - Look for ALL of these nutrient-

Show Us the HG Love and WIN STUFF!!!

Our BFFs over at WhateverHollywood.com (famous for their "Love at First
Bite" low-carb pizza video and other fine cinematic offerings) have outdone
themselves this time. They surprised us with an ADORABLE and completely
charming video about the HG book. Check it out! And this super-cute clip
gave us an idea. We want YOU, the HG subscribers, to come up with YOUR
OWN fun and clever ways to spread the word about the HG book. Maybe you
could call your local radio station and blab about it on the air, talk it up to a
group of 100 people, or throw a potluck HG recipe party. Just keep it legal, of
course -- so no streaking through Times Square waving a copy of the book
(HG is not responsible for unlawful acts of promotion!). Whatever you decide
to do, send us the details (could be photos, video, or just an explanation in
writing) and you could win AWESOME HG stuff like books (autographed!), T-
shirts, bookmarks, hoodies, and MORE. We may even feature your brilliant
act of book promotion in an upcoming email or on our MySpace page (with
your permission, of course!). Be creative -- and have fun! We'll be giving
away 25 prizes over the next few weeks, so get busy and spread the HG
love...

Shell Shock! (IHOP Omelette Stats Revealed)

Boy are we having fun with this NYC regulation requiring certain restaurants
to reveal the calorie counts of their foods right on the menu. Last week we
outed some doozies from T.G.I. Friday's, and this week we've got some
INSANE news from the world of IHOP (who, up until now, have kept their
nutritionals hush-hush). If you think french toast and waffles are the only
dangerous items on their breakfast menu, um, you're in for a big fat
surprise. Ordering an omelette at the b-fast chain could actually supply you
with pretty much all the calories you need for an ENTIRE DAY. No huge
surprise that the Big Steak Omelette will cost you 1,490 calories or that the
Big Bacon Omelette has 1,430. But would you have ever imagined that the
veggie-packed Garden Omelette is crammed with 1,150 calories or that the
Spinach & Mushroom Omelette contains 1,210? That's INSANE! These stats
do include the 3 pancakes that each omelette is served with, so our advice is
to avoid those p-cakes, ask for egg whites only (or egg substitute), and skip
the cheese. Those three easy tweaks will likely save you at least 600
calories. Still, a better bet would be to make your omelettes at home (where
you have wonderful things like nonstick spray, Egg Beaters, fat-free or low-
fat cheese, and fresh veggies!).

The Buzz...

Look! It's an HG and Amazon exclusive! Check out Hungry Girl's Weekend
Fun Guide over at Amazon! It's an 11-page booklet you can download for
FREE, featuring lots of great recipes for any and every weekend occasion.
And while you're over at Amazon, post a review for the HG book! Woohoo!
***Smoothie lovers, you MUST check out the Leapin' Lizard smoothie
(peaches, strawberries and a fat burner blast) at Planet Smoothie. Not only
does it have just 209 calories, less than a gram of fat and 3 whole grams of
fiber (POINTS® value 4*), but also it'll be available for just 99 cents on
Wednesday, May 7th. Yee-haa! ***About.com and Calorie Count have
launched Calorie Count Mobile, a new free service that allows you to receive
nutritional info and ratings of over 70,000 foods on your cell phone or mobile
device! Pretty cool stuff... click here for the full scoop. Then try it and let us
know what you think. ***Oooooh... here's a fun little surprise! Click here to
get a free sample of Kashi's Mountain Medley Granola, while supplies last
(go, Kashi!). ***Do you watch The Biggest Loser and wish you could have
that kind of help when it comes to food? You can... sort of! Check out The
(official!) Biggest Loser Meal Plan -- you choose the specific plan you like,
and then precooked frozen meals will be mailed to you each week. The only
bummer is that the delivery box isn't big enough to stuff a personal trainer
into. Oh well... ***100-calorie pack alert! Portion-controlled 100-cal packs of
Craisins have been popping up in supermarkets. We love Craisins... Yay!
That's all we've got. HG out!
