Hungry Girl Today: 08.11.08

Spotted on Shelves...

Fiber One Complete Pancake Mix - We told you it was coming, but now this
product has actually been seen on supermarket shelves... pancake mix from
our F1 friends! Great stats. A half-cup of the mix (which makes 3 pancakes)
has 180 calories, 3.5g fat, 36g carbs, and 5g fiber (POINTS® value 3*). And
all you have to add is water. We've tried it, and our p-cakes were fluffy and
tasted great! Yum!

Welch's Fruit 'n Yogurt Snacks - These chewy, yogurt-covered snacks come
in Blueberry and Strawberry. They're fruit snacks with fancy coating. A 15-
piece serving has 100 calories, 1.5g fat, and 21g carbs (POINTS® value 2*).
Sweet! Pssst... there are 90-calorie pouches out there as well! (Those also
have a POINTS® value of 2*.)

Special K Grab 'N Go Cereal Packs - Another portion-controlled cereal-in-a-
pouch option. These come in both Vanilla Almond and Fruit & Yogurt, and
each pouch has 100 calories, 1g fat, 21 - 22g carbs, and 1g fiber (POINTS®
value 2*). Perfect for those who can't control their cereal desires and usually
end up overdoing it.

Chicken Chatter -- Label Updates and Alerts!

Trader Joe's Update - Earlier this summer, we warned you that we had
suspicions about the accuracy of the nutrition info for Trader Joe's Chili Lime
Chicken Burgers. Immediately after our email went out, the burgers were
pulled from shelves. The owner of the company that manufactures the
product (who was extremely concerned and is an all-around genuine and
lovely fellow) had the product re-tested, and the burgers are now back on
shelves with new nutritional stats. They went from having 110 calories, 3g
fat, 4g carbs, and 1g fiber (POINTS® value 2*) to having 150 calories, 6g
fat, 3g carbs, and 2g fiber (POINTS® value 3*). Thanks to all of you for
following up at your local TJ's. And GO US! We're all really making a
difference -- let's keep it up!

Bell & Evans Chicken Heads Up - A very astute HG subscriber noticed that his
(yes, we said HIS!) Breaded Chicken Breast seemed too oily to have just
2.5g fat like the product label stated, so he checked out the Bell & Evans
website and contacted the company. He quickly learned that the product
actually has 12 grams of fat (yes, TWELVE!). We called the company
ourselves, and it's true! Apparently the company didn't take into account the
OIL the chicken is fried with during the breading step. OOPS! We're told that
they are taking steps to correct the labeling issue. But this once again proves
that if food stats SEEM too good to be true, they very well could be
inaccurate -- be careful...

Time to Win Things!

Check out these food-related contests...

Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?" Click here, take your best guess, and you
could be $50,000 richer! Reminder: Tootsie Pops have just 60 calories and
are fat-free (POINTS® value 1*). Woohoo!

Write a Tune About Tuna - The Chicken of the Sea folks are looking to add
another verse to their beloved "Ask any mermaid you happen to see..."

The Buzz...

If you're one of those stevia-lovers, you'll be happy to know that both Coca-
Cola and PepsiCo are planning to put out a slew of beverages featuring the
natural sweetener over the next few years. Some people think stevia is the
next big (and safe) thing in no-calorie sweeteners, while others think it's
bitter (and aren't convinced it's safe). Either way, you'll be seeing a lot of it
VERY soon... ***Yogurt Alert! Remember when the folks at Dannon turned
their yummy 80-calorie Light & Fit yogurt into thin, watery, less-good 60-
calorie stuff? Well, they've come to their senses and added some flavor,
texture (and those calories!) back into it. Look for the new containers with
the words "Great New Taste!" on them at your local market. ***Recent
research shows that adding spices to your diet may decrease the effects of
high blood sugar, like tissue damage and inflammation. Spices are a virtually
calorie-free way to flavor your food, so GET SPICE-HAPPY (even if you don't
have high blood sugar)! ***Good news... people are starting to pay more
attention to food labels. Apparently, 65% of Americans say they are noticing
and reading labels more often than they were two years ago. Oddly, only
48% of us are consistently reading calorie counts. Keep checking those
labels -- and remind your friends to do it, too! That's all we've got. HG out!
