Hungry Girl Today: 2.23.09

Spotted on Shelves...

All-Bran Rolled Fiber Wafers - In both Strawberry and Chocolate, these
things look like those crazy cereal straw thingees Kellogg makes. In fact,
we're pretty sure these ARE cereal straws, just with added fiber and
a "healthy" new spin. Each 3-wafer serving has 130 calories, 4g fat, 28g
carbs, 10g fiber, and 2g protein (POINTS® value 2*). Find them in the "Fiber
Supplement Aisle"... wherever that is.

Morningstar Farms Hickory BBQ Riblets - You know we are OBSESSED with
Gardenburger BBQ Riblets. Well, there's a new "riblet" in town and we
thought you should know about it, in case you're looking to expand your
riblet horizons (and really, shouldn't we ALL be open to this?). The saucy new
Riblets have 220 calories, 3.5g fat, 35g carbs, 5g fiber, and 18g protein
(POINTS® value 4*) each. Is there room in this world for BOTH of these
meatless pork swaps? Only time will tell. (BTW, they are owned by the same
parent company and have identical stats. Veeeery interesting.)

Kraft On the Go Pouches of Salad Dressing - We've mentioned them before,
but they're worth blabbing about again. These single-serving pouches of
dressing are perfect for stashing in your purse, at your office, in your carry-
on luggage... basically anywhere a salad emergency might arise. We've seen
three reduced-fat flavors -- Light Balsamic Vinaigrette, Light Zesty Italian,
and Light Ranch -- each with 25 - 60 calories, 1 - 4g fat, 2 - 6g carbs, 0g
fiber, and 0g protein (POINTS® value 1 - 2*). But rumor has it, there are
two NEW flavors out there -- Roasted Red Pepper Italian with Parmesan and
Vidalia Onion Vinaigrette with Roasted Red Pepper. Fancy! Anyone seen or
tried those? Let us know!

LISTMANIA! Just Chew It...

A group of nutrition experts came up with 10 foods not commonly eaten by
Americans that are total nutritional powerhouses. They say people may not
be familiar with these foods at all, but we think they're not giving us enough
credit. We eat a lot of these regularly... Do YOU?

1. Kiwi
2. Broccoli rabe
3. Brazil nuts
4. Edamame
5. Red lentils
6. Quinoa
7. Canned salmon
8. Prawns
9. Whole grain and multigrain pastas
10. Pomegranate

FOODIE ALERT: Bacon and Donuts!?!? Yup!

The Great Bacon Debate - Ever since Oprah mentioned that regular bacon is
better than turkey bacon (due to sodium levels), people have been going
NUTSO. Truth is, you need to examine your bacon and read labels -- and
each product should be judged based on its individual nutritional info. Turkey
bacon can have way fewer calories and much less fat than regular bacon.
Some turkey bacon has lower sodium content than others, and some regular
bacon has reduced calories and fat. It just depends on the bacon. Thoroughly
confused? Distract yourself and check out baconfreak.com, a site TRULY
devoted to the "meat candy" -- you can find bacon lunchboxes, gummy
bacon, bacon toothpicks, and an INSANE (in a good way) selection of
flavored bacon with decent stats (we know because we've tried them).
Woohoo!

Fat-Slashed Donuts: Better Than EVER - If donuts are a weakness of yours,
check out Holey Donuts!. The company sells oodles of low-fat and reduced-
fat donuts in ridiculously delicious flavors. The latest offering? Low Fat
Cinnamon Glazed Donut Holes, with fewer calories and a fraction of the fat
compared to regular ones. If you order these donuts, you NEED to come up
with a plan to help you avoid eating too many at once. We freeze them in foil
so they don't glare at us and beg us to eat them. One at a time, people! FYI,
use discount code HG30 and you'll get 30 FREE donut holes with any order
placed before 3/3/09. (They're pricey, we know. But TOTALLY unique and
delicious!)

something silly, okay?) ***Wish you could have a cup of Starbucks coffee in
less time than it takes to get to your local 'Bucks, wait in line, schmooze with
the barista, etc.? Good news... Starbucks' Via Ready Brew instant coffee, in

stuff is said to be "full-bodied and flavorful, just like the Starbucks coffee you

natural lip balms from Crazy Rumors. (The HG staff LOVES 'em.) ***This
just in. If you're overweight, you could be more likely than others to
