Hungry Girl Today: 3.16.09

Spotted on Shelves...

Glacéau Vitaminwater10 - This new low-calorie, naturally sweetened line of
water is MAJORLY impressive. There are four flavors -- Energy Tropical
Citrus (good), Essential Orange-Orange (really good), Multi-V Lemonade
(really, really good!), and XXX Acai-Blueberry-Pomegranate (good, but not
as good as the others). An 8-oz. serving of each has just 10 calories -- that's
25 calories per bottle. A new HG staple.

Butterball Thin & Crispy Turkey Bacon - Looking for turkey bacon with more
flavor than the extra-lean kind but fewer calories and less fat than regular
turkey bacon? Well, here it is. A 3-slice serving of these skinny strips has 50
calories, 3.5g fat, 1g carbs, 0g fiber, and 5g protein (POINTS® value 1*).
These crisp up really well and have pretty lacy edges, too!

Zoe's Granola Cereals - Attention, granola-munchers. Not only does this stuff
taste fantastic (seriously, it's GOOD), but it also has great nutritional stats.
That's because the humans over at Zoe's are smart, and they bulked up their
oats with clusters of rice and soy crisps. So you get a nice 3/4-cup serving
for 190 calories, 4.5 - 5g fat, 32 - 34g carbs, 7 - 8g fiber, and 8g protein
(POINTS® value 3*). Check 'em out in Cranberries Currants, Honey Almond,
and Cinnamon Raisin. Click here to see where they're sold and here to order
online. P.S. Check out this free-shipping deal on a sampler pack!

Calorie-Counters Got It Goin' On!

We've been saying this for a bazillion years (okay, since May of 2004), but
there's no magic bullet that can change the simple facts of weight loss. The
formula is pretty simple, chewers: It's calories in vs. calories burned. And a
recent study (the largest of its kind) has confirmed this. Participants followed
various diet plans (low-carb, high-protein, etc.), but each plan cut the same
amount of calories from the participant's normal intake. Turns out that it
really didn't matter what they ate, just how many calories they consumed --
every diet group lost about the same amount of weight. We say, if you're
trying to shed lbs., it's up to YOU to figure out what helps you achieve a
lower calorie lifestyle. We're all about eating, so we tend to stick with stuff
we can eat large portions of without taking in a huge number of calories.
More protein, less starchy carbs, less fat, more fiber -- all great ways to get
more bang for your calorie buck. The takeaway here is that cutting calories,
along with finding the stuff that keeps you satisfied, is the way to go for
weight loss. And, while we're on the subject of calorie-counting, here's a
friendly reminder that our new book, Hungry Girl 200 Under 200, (out
4/14/09) features 200 recipes, each under 200 calories per serving. To meet
your calorie needs while chewing LOTS of delicious food, mix and
match 'em 'til the cows come home!

Frozen Food Trends: Super-Low-Sodium, Organic, Gluten-Free, and All-
Natural Options!

If you're looking for healthier selections in the freezer aisle, you've come to
the right place...

Organic Bistro Whole Life Meals - These flash-frozen entrées have a LOT
going for them. Besides being organic and kinda fancy, they're also crazy-
low in sodium (as little as 80mg and no more than 400mg) and gluten-free.
The line includes Spiced Chicken Morocco, Jamaican Shrimp Cakes, Pasta
Puttanesca, Savory Turkey, Sockeye Salmon Cakes, Chicken Citron, Wild
Salmon, and Ginger Chicken. Most of these meals have 330 - 490 calories,
6 - 17g fat, 43 - 57g carbs, 6 - 9g fiber, and 12 - 35g protein (POINTS®
value 6 - 10*) each -- only the salmon ones have higher stats. Lots of unique
flavors and ingredients here -- a cinnamon-apricot sauce, ginger-scented
edamame, a green tea glaze, and more. We tried a whole bunch of these
meals, and we're fans. They can be purchased online and found at select
supermarkets, like many Whole Foods locations. Click here to locate a store
near you that stocks these or here to order online.

Healthy Choice All Natural Entrées - Check out this new line of high-fiber,
preservative-free, meatless frozen meals. There are six varieties -- Sweet
Asian Potstickers, Mediterranean Pasta, Portabella Marsala Pasta, Portabella
Spinach Parmesan, Pumpkin Squash Ravioli, and Tomato Basil Penne. Each
has 270 - 380 calories, 4.5 - 7g fat, 38 - 75g carbs, 5 - 12g fiber, and 8 - 13g
protein (POINTS® value 5 - 7*). We're looking forward to trying them all...
especially the Pumpkin Squash Ravioli!

FYI, the food is delicious (especially the lasagna... YUM!). ***Heard of
Slender Wine? Sweetened with a 0-calorie natural sweetener, it's the world's
only sweet wine with no sugar and no carbs. We've heard the calorie count is
pretty similar to dry wine. LOTS of people are yapping about this stuff. To
buy and try, click here (IL, IN, MN, & NM) or here (select other states)... and
then let us know what you think. And by the way, if you're the type that
needs a little help controlling your wine servings, check out these Wine-Trax
glasses with portion-control lines at the 4-oz., 6-oz., and 8-oz. marks. VERY
cool! And don't worry -- there are no numbers actually imprinted on the
glasses. So you won't look like you're drinking out of a long-stemmed
measuring cup. ***Are you a fiber know-it-all? Prove it! Play Fiber One's
