ASK HUNGRY GIRL
Hi, Hungry Girl!
My friends and I decided we're going to have a Hungry Girl dinner party --
each of us will prepare and bring a Hungry Girl dish. I was wondering if you
have any recipe suggestions for appetizers, main dishes, sides, desserts,
etc., that are "dinner-party-worthy." You know, a little more special than the
average menu! Thanks so much!
Party Girl
Dear Party Girl,
That is a GREAT question, and it really made me think. OK... I'm going to list
some of my favorites here. A bunch can be found on the site or in our first
book, and some are brand-new recipes from Hungry Girl 200 Under 200.
That book has entire chapters of recipes that are great for parties, like Start
Me Up! (appetizers), Dip It Good (dips and dippers), and Yo, Cupcake! (duh,
cupcakes). Here goes...
Appetizers - De-Pudged Pigs in a Blanket, Four-Cheese Stuffed-Silly
Mushrooms, and Mmmm-azing Mini Mushroom Tartlets are all GREAT. Plus,
they travel pretty well, so you can easily make 'em in advance.
Main Courses - I LOOOOOVE So Low Mein w/ Chicken, EZ Tomato Basil
Chicken, Saucy BBQ Seafood Skewers, and Crazy-Good Turkey Taco
Meatloaf -- all REALLY delicious. In fact, I recently went to a party where
they served Turkey Taco MEATBALLS made from our meatloaf recipe!
Sides - My all-time favorite may be the 2-Good Twice-Baked Potato. I also
love the Portabella Skins (a.k.a. Skinny "Skins") and Miracle Mashies.
Desserts - Go for the Death by Chocolate Cone Cakes. Only 93 calories
each, and they are SO GOOD (and so good-looking!). Or whip up some 104-
Calorie Creme Brulee if you're feeling adventurous. YUM!
OK, now I am STARVING. Hope your dinner party is a success -- let me
know where it is and maybe I'll crash it! :)
HG,
I've got a recipe Q for you. Over time, do you ever change your recipes at
all or make little tweaks that actually improve them?
Just Curious
Dear Just Curious,
So weird that you asked -- this just happened to us! We were making our
(ridiculously delicious) H-O-T Hot Boneless Buffalo Wings for an Extra
segment, and we realized we mistakenly purchased plain Pringles instead of
the Barbecue ones (oops!). I decided to use BBQ Popchips in place of the
Pringles -- we always have bazillions of bags of Popchips on hand, since we
love them so much. The wings turned out better than EVER. That sort of thing
happens from time to time. Another example is our Chicken Pot Pockets --
I've been making those with more chicken these days (because I am a
maniac for protein). And we're always trying out new ways to make our
Bake-tastic Butternut Squash Fries as crispy as possible. (Click & scroll for
our latest tips!) The lesson here is that recipes are living, breathing things
that can change. Okay, that is a TOTAL lie -- they don't breathe at all and
they aren't alive. But they can definitely change! And I encourage you to
tweak 'em and put your own touch on them, if that's your style. Do YOU have
a cool spin on an HG recipe? Click here to tell us about it. Have fun cooking!
