***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in
your inbox... coming soon!***

This is the text version of Hungry Girl.

Hungry Girl Today: 7.20.09

Spotted on Shelves...

New 50-Calorie Yoplait Fiber One Yogurt - Three words: Hungry. Girl.
Approved. And RIGHT ON THE (super-cute) PACKAGE! Emails have been
pouring in about this because it has finally hit store shelves and has been
spotted on national TV commercials! The creamy fat-free yogurt line from F1
has been reformulated -- now each 4-oz. container has just 50 calories, 13g
carbs, a whopping 5g fiber, and 3g protein (POINTS® value 0*). And,
somehow, it tastes even better. (Really!) It comes in Strawberry, Peach, Key
Lime Pie, and Vanilla... ALL good. Click here for a $1-off coupon!

Cranberry Raisinets - Messing with a classic isn't always a good idea. But
these sweet 'n tart dried cranberries covered in milk chocolate ROCK!!!! In
addition to multi-serving bags, these come in 100-calorie packs, which are
pretty much essential with an incredibly delicious snack. Each antioxidant-
packed 100-cal bag has 4g fat, 17g carbs, <1g fiber, and <1g protein
(POINTS® value 2*). Our nickname for 'em? Craisinets. (It's just a
nickname, trademark attorneys... SHEESH!)

Sargento Reduced Fat Pepper Jack Cheese - Sargento makes some of THE
best cheese around, and these fat-slashed deli-style slices are the latest (and
some say, the GREATEST) in the line. With habanero and jalapeno peppers,
this cheese is creamy and not overly spicy. One slice clocks in with 50
calories, 4g fat, 0g carbs, 0g fiber, and 6g protein (POINTS® value 1*). P.S.
Check out the rest of the reduced-fat line too... SOOO GOOOD!

Calorie Counting: The HG Update!

This is big, humans. Phase one of California's new menu-labeling law went
into effect this month, requiring chain restaurants with twenty or more
locations to provide nutrition stats (calories, saturated fat, sodium, and
carbs) for all standard menu items. Here's the REALLY exciting part... A few
chains have already started listing stats online, like Claim Jumper (SO
scary!) and California Pizza Kitchen (click here to download). Others have
just added nutritionals to their menus or made brochures available at CA
locations, and we (of course) have tracked down a few! Here are some
highlights and lowlights...

IHOP
Not Bad... Buttermilk Trio For Me (on the IHOP For Me menu) - 380 calories
and 2g saturated fat.
Really Sad... Breakfast Sampler - 1,250 calories and 24g saturated fat!!!

California Pizza Kitchen
Not Bad... Pesto Chicken Thin Crust pizza (one slice) - 155 calories.
Really Sad... Field Greens salad - 1,372 calories!!!

Outback Steakhouse
Not Bad... Seared Ahi Tuna appetizer - 432 calories and 3g saturated fat.
Really Sad... Kookaburra Wings appetizer - 1,459 calories and 31g saturated
fat!!!

Heads up! Like all menu nutritionals provided by restaurants, the stats are
not always 100% accurate for what ends up on your plate (due to inexact
amounts of ingredients actually used). So pay attention and use your best
judgment. And not to sound ungrateful or anything, but the next time
lawmakers want to make nutritional disclosure mandatory, how about adding
TOTAL FAT and fiber to the list of nutrients that need to be revealed? Just
sayin'...

Cool Contests, Charitable Cereal, and More...

National Mustard Day - Saturday, August 1st, is National Mustard Day, and if
you're anywhere near Wisconsin, you may want to get your buns down to the
Mount Horeb Mustard Museum for this year's event. The annual condiment-
fest often includes "free" hot dogs (mustard required!), live music, mustard
samples, and more! Can't make it? Celebrate by smearing your favorite
mustard on EVERYTHING. We'll be livin' it up with Dijonnaise, French's
Classic Yellow, and Vivi's. And BTW, there's still time to enter French's Cook-
Off 2009 contest. The grand prize is $25,000. Click NOW for more on that...

Post's Bowls of Hope Program - Want to chew for a cause? Chew on this...
Until the end of '09, Post will donate one bowl of cereal to Feeding America
for every purchase of specially marked Post Shredded Wheat cereal (up to
15 million bowls!). All of the Shredded Wheat varieties are included in the
program. (The new Vanilla Almond Spoon Size is SO good!) Give it up for
Post. P.S. Lots of other companies are also getting in on the Feeding America
action -- General Mills and Kellogg are among them. Woohoo!

Kraftstore.com - This new-ish shopping site has all things kitchen-related...
well, except for actual food. You can find great deals on appliances,
cookware, and more. It's easy to navigate, and there are always sales and
specials going on. Also, right now you can enter for a chance to win a $500
virtual shopping spree when you sign up for the site's e-newsletter. The
contest runs 'til next Friday (7/31), so click fast for all the details!

The Buzz...

CHOCOLATE MINT VITATOP ALERT!!! If you were one of the first to try the
new Chocolate Mint Vitas, you may have been in for a minty surprise. A slew
of the Tops were accidentally baked with too much mint, making them
SUPER-DUPER MINTY. This was purely accidental. If you received these too-
minty Tops, click here to find out what to do next. ***Do you like free
coffee? Check out FREE MOCHA MONDAYS at McDonald's. Every Monday until
August 3rd (that's today, 7/20, and the next TWO Mondays) you can head in
to a participating Mickey D's location for a free 7-oz. Iced Mocha or 8-oz. Hot
Mocha, between 7am and 7pm, while supplies last. Pssst... remember to
order yours with skim milk and a single pump of chocolate to keep it HG-
friendly! ***No-guilt foods at Panda Express have just gotten easier to spot.
Look for the new Wok Smart symbol to ID the items with 250 calories or less
per single serving. This is obviously awesome, but we have one question for
pandas Tom-Tom and Eddie -- why must your mixed veggies contain so
much fat? (13g for a side?!) ***While we're on the subject of new menu
items, Subway is now serving up Orchard Chicken Salad, a chunky chicken
salad made with fruit and light mayo. Order it on 6-inch white or wheat
bread, and your sub will have 340 calories, 7g fat, 53g carbs, 6g fiber, and
18g protein (POINTS® value 7*). That's all we've got. HG out!
