***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in
your inbox... coming soon!***

This is the text version of Hungry Girl.

Hungry Girl Today: 3.15.10

Spotted on Shelves...

Kraft 100 Calorie Packs Cheese Bites - If you can't be trusted around a big
open package of queso cubes, grab these single-serving pouches. They
come in four varieties: Cheddar, Cheddar & Monterey Jack, Three Cheese
Blend (Mozzarella, Parmesan & White Cheddar), and Mozzarella, Garlic &
Herb. Each 100-cal package has 8g fat, 290 - 320mg sodium, <1g carbs, 0g
fiber, 0g sugars, and 6g protein (POINTS® value 3*). We're dreaming about
a reduced-fat version. Click now for a coupon!

Quaker True Delights Multigrain Fiber Crisps - Mmmmm, this snack is like the
love child of a rice cake and fruity granola! Each crisp is packed with grains
and flavor, and the stats are pretty impressive. In Wild Blueberry (our
favorite!) and Blackberry Pomegranate, a 13-piece serving has a svelte 110
calories, 1.5g fat, 135mg sodium, 23g carbs, 3g fiber, 6g sugars, and 2g
protein (POINTS® value 2*). Start munching!

Buddig Fix Quix - Once in a while, a new product comes along that makes us
wonder why no one came up with it before. These li'l portion-controlled cups
of cooked & chopped lean meats DEFINITELY qualify. Try the Grilled Chicken,
Oven-Roasted Turkey Breast, or Smoked Ham. Take one on the go and add
it to your salad, soup, or any food item that needs a protein boost! Each
container (about 2 oz.) has 60 - 70 calories, 1 - 2.5g fat, 310 - 460mg
sodium, 1 - 2g carbs, 0g fiber, 1g sugars, and 10 - 11g protein (POINTS®
value 1 - 2*). They're currently in limited distribution, so request 'em at your
local market!

The Secret's OUT and the Shipping's FREE!

Secret finds? We've got 'em! And since they can be hard to find locally, the
awesome humans behind these products are offering HGers FREE SHIPPING
until this Thursday, March 18th! Just order from the product websites linked
to below, and use promo/coupon code: freeship. YAY!

Something Special Deli-Foods Ltd. Gourmet Antipasto - Is it a spread? A dip?
Who cares?! This crazy-delicious line of chunky, tangy, veggie-based
condiments includes Original (the with-tuna formula), Vegetarian (sans fish),
and Picante (spicy!) antipastos. A 2-tbsp. serving has 30 calories, 1g fat,
170 - 190mg sodium, 4g carbs, 1g fiber, 3g sugars, and 0.5 - 1g protein
(POINTS® value 0*). You MUST try this stuff! Really. BTW, the free shipping
applies to ANY order, not just cases!

Leonardo e Roberto's Gourmet Blends Vanilla Fig Balsamic Vinegar - Another
item so incredible, it defies labels. This aged vinegar is sweet and delicious
and would be just as good on dessert as on dinner. A tbsp. has 49 calories,
0g fat, 0mg sodium, 14g carbs, 0g fiber, 9g sugars, and 0g protein
(POINTS® value 1*). More calories -- and more costly -- than the average
balsamic, but VERY worth it, especially considering a little goes a long way!
P.S. The Asian Dipping Oil is also AMAZING!

FiberGourmet Lite Microwave Brownie and Cake Mixes - Our pasta-'n-cracker-
creating pals have entered the world of just-add-water-and-nuke, single-
serving dessert bowls! In Cinnamon Crumb Cake and Frosted Brownies,
each bowl has 90 calories, 1g fat, 100mg sodium, 29 - 31g carbs, 12g fiber,
14 - 15g sugars, and 2g protein (POINTS® value 1*). Impressive!

Don't forget -- shipping is FREE until this Thursday (3/18) with coupon/promo
code: freeship. P.S. These are NOT paid product mentions. We truly love
these food finds, and the companies are simply nice enough to offer free
shipping. Thanks, guys!

The Case of the Shrinking Sodium Counts!

We're all aware it's a good idea to reduce our sodium intake, but what do
people really think when they see "reduced sodium" on a label? Apparently,
many folks assume those products won't taste as good as the originals. And
since a reduced-sodium claim requires a reduction of at least 25%, the
change in taste often is noticeable. As a result, the sodium-slashed varieties
don't sell as well. So food companies, under pressure to lower sodium
counts, have had to get sneaky. Brands like ConAgra and Campbell have
been discreetly cutting the salt content in food products little by little, so that
the changes aren't all that noticeable to consumers. We understand the hush-
hush-ness of it all, but we'd like to give a thumbs-up to these guys for their
sodium-slashing ways. The most recent cuts to grab our attention?
Campbell's original V8 veggie juice has had its SECOND salt cut in the last 3
years, and the Spicy Hot variety got a reduced-salt makeover, too.
(HOORAY!) And Heinz will be reducing the sodium in its regular ketchup by
15 percent starting this summer. Just in time for all those backyard BBQs.
Thank you, food people!

The Buzz...

Are those 24-oz. "Venti" iced drinks at Starbucks STILL not big enough for
you? Good news: The 'Bucks is currently testing out a 31-oz. "Trenta" cup in
Phoenix and Tampa, exclusively for iced coffees and teas. Good thing the full-
fat Fraps aren't being offered in that size... Can you imagine the calorie
counts!?! ***More beverage info: Silk, maker of refrigerated soymilks, has
released a new product called Pure Almond. Yup, you guessed it; it's almond
milk. In Original and Vanilla, the stuff has 60 - 90 calories per 8-oz. serving
and can be found in the refrigerated milk section of select markets. We've
tried it, and it's pretty good. But it's higher in calories than our beloved
Unsweetened Almond Breeze and less delicious than regular Almond Breeze.
***If you don't like weighing out ground meat when making burgers, but you
don't want to accidentally create and devour an 11-oz. patty, you may be
interested in the Adjust-A-Burger Press. Get perfectly shaped and sized
patties every time... and avoid any fights over who gets the biggest burger
at the dinner table. There's even a mini version for making sliders! ***What
do you get when you combine Evite, Open Table, and Yelp with social
networking and the ability to VOTE? (This isn't a political joke; we promise.)
You get Lunchwalla! This brand-new, free-to-use web service allows you to
plan a meal out with friends in an easy and interactive way. Read reviews,
poll your pals, set up reservations, get directions, and more. It's pretty neat!
***Wanna know what's coming up this week in your HG emails? There's a
GIGANTIC frozen-foods review, a recipe for dessert ravioli, a Cheesecake
Factory makeover, and a FREE-SHIPPING VitaTop special (tomorrow!), just
to name a few things! That's all we've got. HG out!
