***ATTENTION TEXT-ONLY HG SUBSCRIBERS (this means YOU!): Since only
a tiny fraction of our audience receives our emails in text-only form, and the
emails look so much better designed in HTML, we have decided to stop
sending out the text-only versions of Hungry Girl newsletters. This change
will happen in the very near future. Keep an eye out for the HTML versions in
your inbox... coming soon!***

Spotted on Shelves...

New Flavors! Cape Cod 40% Less Fat Potato Chips - When we fall for guilt-
free chips, we fall hard. These all-natural, kettle-cooked crisps won us over
ages ago, and now they come in a couple of AMAZING new varieties: Sea
Salt and Vinegar and Sweet Mesquite Barbeque. A 1-oz. serving (about 18
chips) of either has 130 calories, 6g fat, 150 - 220mg sodium, 18g carbs, 1 -
2g fiber, 0 - 1g sugars, and 2g protein (POINTS® value 3*). Crunch time!

Chobani Champions - Greek yogurt rules, but sometimes we need something
a little more fun than the plain kind. Enter this kid-targeted line of all-natural,
protein-packed 2% yogurt. It comes in the CUTEST packaging ever AND in
amazing flavors: Verryberry, Strawnana, Honeynana, and Chocolate. Each
container (about 4 oz.) has 100 - 120 calories, 1.5 - 2g fat, 40 - 50mg
sodium, 12 - 17g carbs, 0 - <1g fiber, 11 - 16g sugars, and 8 - 9g protein
(POINTS® value 2 - 3*). Who says this is just for kids? Click here to find it
near you...

Limited Time Only! Kellogg's Pops MiXit Cereal - The new cereal concept
from the Kellogg people goes like this: Pick your favorites from the MiXit
lineup of flavored Pops offerings -- Chocolate, Double Fudge, Graham,
Marshmallow, and Strawberry -- and mix 'n match for a personalized
breakfast bowl! (The bags are smaller than your average cereal box but not
individually portioned.) A cup of each has 110 calories, 0.5 - 1g fat, 120 -
140mg sodium, 26g carbs, 3g fiber, 12g sugars, and 2g protein (POINTS®
value 2*). S'mores cereal, anyone? Strawberry-fudge snack mix?

Restaurants Want Your Attention!

Since the economy's a tad wonky at present (to say the least), restaurants
are pulling out the stops to get you to come eat at their establishments.
California Pizza Kitchen has rolled out its new Thank You promotion. When
you go to CPK, you'll receive a sealed envelope. (You can even request one
without buying anything.) What's the catch? DON'T OPEN IT! On your NEXT
visit, a manager will open it to reveal your prize: anything from 10 percent
off your meal to $25,000. Also up for grabs? A trip to Hawaii and a Neiman
Marcus shopping spree! Additionally, use the card's special code to enter for
the chance to win $100,000. (Ends 10/8/10.) WOW. Over at Chili's, you could
nab a gift card worth about $50 just by submitting a super-short video about
why you don't want to cook dinner. Every day through August 30th, one
entrant will be randomly selected to receive the prize. Plus, with location-
specific deal sites like Groupon and LivingSocial, you can even snag savings
at smaller independent places; just enter your location to see which
restaurants (and other businesses) in your area are offering incentives --
you might discover a new favorite place to eat AND save money. It's a
DEAL!
Would You Like Cash with That?

Rise & Dine!
Fast-Food Breakfasts: Beyond the McMuffin

Gone are the days of being faced with nothing but a couple of lame fast-food
options at breakfast time. Breakfast burritos? Feh. Cinnamon rolls? No
thanks. Croissan'wich? No comment. Subway kicked off the recent
renaissance of fast-food breakfasts with its super-tasty Muffin Melts --
specifically the Egg White Muffin Melts; now the chain's planning to expand its
A.M. line with new breakfast foods and more coffee drinks. McDonald's is
offering Real Fruit Smoothies with surprisingly decent stats. SCORE! And now
Taco Bell is jumping on the b-fast bandwagon by test-marketing morning
options in a few locations. Sadly, those offerings include (sigh) breakfast
burritos, cinnamon rolls, and other items with more of a low-price spin than a
low-fat one. Boo. But following in the footsteps of Starbucks and Jamba
Juice, frozen-dessert-superstar Tasti D-Lite is testing breakfast items like
parfaits, hot granola, and fresh baked goods. Yay! Here's hoping the Tasti
peeps keep the stats smart...

The Buzz...

Cool news from the world of kitchen appliances! Those preprogrammed
microwave buttons for one-touch cooking have traditionally been limited to
things like pizza and popcorn. No longer! This fall, look for GE microwaves
with the new MyPyramid button, which gives users preset times and power
levels to cook healthier items like oatmeal, asparagus, broccoli, and more. In
a perfect world, they would include presets for egg mugs and come in pink...
***Remember when the flavored varieties of Egg Beaters got the touch-of-
yolk treatment? They were good, but many people preferred them without
any yolk. Have you noticed that the entire Egg Beaters line -- including the
Southwestern Style, Cheese & Chive, and Garden Vegetable flavors -- is
once again free of yolk and the cholesterol that comes along with it? Not
exactly "breaking" egg news, but exciting nonetheless! ***More flavorful
news! Taco Bell has just launched Cantina Tacos, street-food-inspired items
with not-too-shabby stats! Have a chicken or steak one for 160 - 170
calories, 2.5g fat, and 3g fiber (POINTS® value 3*). The carnitas (pork)
version also packs in fiber, but its other stats are a bit higher: 200 cals and
7g fat per taco (POINTS® value 4*). ***If the thought of a stick with
flavoring on it appeals to you, it's your lucky day. In Cinnamon and Tropical
varieties, Fruit Stickles are mini skewers designed to give a little extra flavor
boost to speared fruit. We can't decide if this is crazy or cool... or crazy cool.
That's all we've got. HG out!
