GIRLS BITE OUT

We chewed...now we're telling!

Tasty Eats Soy Jerky, Hot N' Spicy
(1 serving - 0.5 oz.: 45 calories, <1g fat, 125mg sodium, 6g carbs, 1g fiber,
3g sugars, 4g protein = 1 Point)

What It Is: Jerky, made of soy.

What We Think of It: We love jerky, so we 're always open to try new jerky-
related products -- even ones made of soy. We were more than pleasantly
surprised when we sampled Tasty Eats Soy Jerky. It's sweet and yummy
and it has a little kick to it, but it's definitely NOT "hot". It's perfect! Not
quite as dry as regular beef or turkey jerky, this stuff is satisfying, awesome,
and low in fat and calories. And, since it's not made of meat, you don't ever
have to consider that your little leathery snack was once a living, breathing
creature, 'cuz it wasn't. Find this stuff online, at Whole Foods, and at other
natural foods stores.

Overall Score: We'd give the Hot N' Spicy flavor a 10. The Teriyaki and
Ginger flavors are great, too. But the chicken-flavored ones (low-
carb/unsweetened) are icky and scary. This is a great on-the-go snack!

Kellogg’s Special K Protein Meal Bars & Snack Bars
(*Meal Bars - 45g: 190 calories, 5-6g fat, 2g fiber = 4 Points)
(*Snack Bars - 26g: 110 calories, 3-3.5g fat, 0-1g fiber = 2-3 Points)

*nutritionals vary among flavors

What They Are: A line of larger bars, called Meal Bars, and a line of smaller
bars, called Snack Bars.

What We Think of 'Em: Yikes! Special K, we love you. And we REALLY love
your Snack Bites, but these new bars really miss the mark. The 190-calorie
meal bars aren't large enough to be an actual meal substitute. They're also
way too sweet, crumbly, and with that dry low-carb flavor (even though they
aren't low-carb), these bars are just not good. There's not a flavor in the
bunch we like. The snack bars taste a bit better, but are basically chewy
candy bars (very tiny ones!) that we feel aren't worth the 110- calorie price
tag they come with. Don't get us wrong, 110 calories isn't a lot for a snack,
it's just that these things are so tiny they're simply not worth it. And the fact
that they're trying to pass themselves off as "healthy" disturbs us even
more. We predict a VERY sad, short life for these bars.

Overall Score: 3. Special K...we still love you, but we will never EVER
partake in these items again.

Wish-Bone Salad Spritzers
(10 sprays: 10 calories, 1g fat, 95-130mg sodium, 1g carbs, 0g fiber, 1g
sugars, 0g protein = 0 Points)

What They Are: Little bottles of low-cal, spray-on salad dressing in three
flavors -- Red Wine Mist Cabernet Vinaigrette, Balsamic Breeze Vinaigrette,
and Italian Vinaigrette. 10 sprays for 10 calories. Woohoo!

What We Think of 'Em: No gimmicks here. What you see is what you get,
peeps. Each generous 10-spray serving packs in tons of flavor and a lot of
dressing -- for just 10 measly calories. Spray-on salad dressing is a no-
brainer. Who needs all the extra glop smothering your defenseless lettuce,
anyway? Wish-Bone, you ROCK, bigtime! HUGETIME. All of the flavors are
great, but we like the Italian Vinaigrette the most. We hear there are new
flavors on the way, and we can't wait.

Overall Score: 10. 10 sprays for 10 calories?! It's INSANE!

Blue Diamond Almond Breeze, Unsweetened Chocolate
(8 oz.: 45 calories, 3.5g fat, 180mg sodium, 3g carbs, 1g fiber, 0g sugars, 2g
protein = 1 Point)

What It Is: Unsweetened non-dairy chocolate milk made from almonds?!

What We Think of It: We were so excited to see chocolate (or any!) milk
that has just 45 calories per 8 ounces that it could taste like motor oil and
we'd be excited. The good news is, it DOESN'T taste like motor oil. The bad
news is, it doesn't taste good straight from the container. We added Splenda
to it, which made it pretty good, but this milk is definitely best-suited for
fancy low-cal lattes and things of that nature. In fact, we made some pretty
friggin' INSANE 25-calorie chocolate lattes with this stuff and now we're
hooked. We can't wait to try the other flavors.

Overall Score: 9. But remember, don't drink it straight. It's definitely more
of an ingredient than a beverage.
