Disney Puts a Limit on Character Licensing

The Walt Disney Company recently announced that it'll now be limiting
licensing for most of its characters to food products low in fat and sugar.
Seems pressure from lawmakers who blame marketers for childhood obesity
have caused The Mouse to cave. But don't expect the change to happen
overnight. Existing contracts will play out as planned, and some questionable
food items will likely continue to feature Disney characters on packaging for
as long as seven more years (so, no need to start surfing eBay for boxes of
Lilo & Stitch cereal just yet). In addition, Disney will focus on making kids'
meals at its theme parks healthier. So, what can we expect? Chip 'n Dale
Kale Chips? Bambi Butternut Squash Fries? Only time will tell...

SPLENDA & The Big Apple...Literally!

SPLENDA (HG's sweetener of choice) celebrated the launch of the official
brand cookbook, The SPLENDA World of Sweetness, by assembling the most
ginormous candied apple the world has ever seen, in Manhattan last week.
The humungous "fruit" stood 15 feet tall, was 12 feet wide, and weighed
3,000 lbs. It was covered with 100 gallons of candy coating made from 800
lbs. of SPLENDA Sugar Blend (that translates to a savings of 1,228,800
calories worth of added sugars!). Now, the splendid SPLENDA folks are
auctioning off FIVE copies of the new book (which are autographed by some
of the book's contributing chefs). You have 'til the 29th to bid. All proceeds
from these auctions will go to City Harvest, a food rescue organization that
helps over 260,000 hungry NYers find their next meals. (City Harvest was
also the recipient of the 10,000 apples it took to build the colossal fruity
structure!) Get your bids in early, peeps!

New Books...Weeeeee!

See, reading CAN be fun...

inspired by the TV show, contains more than 125 healthy recipes. Also, check
out The Biggest Loser Calorie Counter: The Quick and Easy Guide to
Thousands of Foods from Grocery Stores and Popular Restaurants (that title
just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?).

The Wine Lover's Healthy Weight Loss Plan - The concept is simple enough.
This book shows how you can easily rid yourself of excess poundage and still
enjoy and benefit from your favorite wines.

Sandra Lee Semi-Homemade Cooking Made Light - Sandra's latest book

The Buzz...

A Ukrainian pastry chef (and our current hero) made his wife's wedding
dress entirely out of cream puffs. The thing was made from over 1,500
pastries (that's around 9,000 Points if you count!), but it weighed just 20 lbs.
(which is likely the same amount of weight you'd GAIN if you ate it).
***Have you sampled the controversial "diet" drink Enviga yet? The Coca-
Cola Company and Nestle (the folks behind this sparkling green tea
beverage) insist that the fizzy beverage increases calorie burning. Experts
aren't so quick to agree. And we're confused. More on this soon; in the
meantime we'll taste it. ***This just in from the world of pudding (sounds
like a fun place to visit, doesn't it?); HG subscribers have spotted Sugar Free
Jell-O Pudding Snacks in brand-new CRAZY flavors like Mochachino and
Dulce De Leche. There's no mention of these elusive puddings on Kraft's
website, or anywhere else on the web for that matter; so we're wondering if
these 60-calorie cups really exist, or if they're just figments of some very
active imaginations. HELP! That's all we've got. HG out!
