This Week's 3 Things to Know

Don't stress: It may undo your healthy eating.

It's no surprise that stress is bad for our well-being, but now some new information has emerged. A recent study found that when unstressed women were fed nearly identical breakfasts -- either made with saturated fat or healthy monounsaturated sunflower oil -- subjects who ate the saturated fat had worse results on blood tests afterward. But when stressed women were fed the healthy fats, it didn't matter; the benefits linked to the monounsaturated oil were gone. No two ways around it: That stinks. (Side note: Where in the world did this study find unstressed women?)

Splenda adds a natural option to its sweetener lineup.

Into natural sweeteners these day? Good news: Splenda Naturals has arrived! Made with GMO-free stevia and erythritol (another popular natural sweetener), the no-calorie packets boast a non-bitter aftertaste, thanks to a specific stevia extract not used by the competition. Skeptical? The brand's offering a $1-off coupon (print it from your computer) and a money-back guarantee. Well played, Splenda…

Study finds any fresh fruit is good for the heart.

We typically hear about specific fruits that deliver health benefits. But according to research published in The New England Journal of Medicine, higher consumption of ANY fresh fruit was associated with a lower risk of heart attacks and strokes. So no more "but pomegranates are so hard to break apart,” “berry seeds get stuck in my teeth," or any other excuses. Eat more fruit, for your heart's sake! Need more ways to incorporate fruit into your diet? Add it to a green salad, top off a bowl of yogurt, or whip up this tasty fruit salad.

That's all we've got. 'Til next time… Chew the right thing!

Chew on this:

Today is National Pancake Day, September 26th (although IHOP celebrates this one in March). It's the perfect time to make these delicious flourless pancakes.
