Some of my favorite store-bought snacks are too high in calories. I need new ideas... besides fruits and veggies. What are some of the best supermarket snacks with 100 calories or less?

Glad you asked! Snacking is a part of life (mine, anyway) -- you might as well pick foods that are low in calories and high in deliciousness. Here are five of the very best snacks on supermarket shelves with no more than 100 calories...

Emerald 100 Calorie Packs

One package: 100 calories, 8 - 9g total fat (0.5 - 1.5g sat. fat), 0 - 110mg sodium, 3 - 5g carbs, 1 - 2g fiber, 1g sugars, 3 - 4g protein -- SmartPoints® value 3*

It doesn't get much better than a portion-controlled pack of almonds, walnuts, and/or cashews: They're filling, great on the go, and give you the perfect dose of healthy fats. I love that Emerald has fun flavors like Dill Pickle Cashews and Vanilla Roast Almonds. And since the sweet ones are just lightly dusted with flavor (not encased in a sugary shell), they satisfy your sweet tooth without a crazy amount of sugar. The best!

Jack Link's Tender Bites Meat Snacks

1 oz.: 60 - 70 calories, 1g total fat (0 - 0.5g sat. fat), 380 - 610mg sodium, 2 - 7g carbs, 0g fiber, 2 - 6g sugars, 9 - 11g protein -- SmartPoints® value 1 - 2*

I love jerky -- it's fantastic for a go-anywhere protein fix. It's also perfect when you're craving something savory and somewhat substantial. A few of my favorite brands aren't exactly supermarket staples, but this mainstream line totally is. Tender Bites are soft nuggets of perfectly flavored beef, turkey, or chicken, and you can find them at just about any grocery or convenience store. (Or buy 'em online.) If you like things hot, try the Flamin' Buffalo Chicken flavor!

Chobani Simply 100 Greek Yogurt

1 container (4.2 - 5.3 oz.): 100 calories, 0 - 1.5g total fat (0 - 0.5g sat. fat), 60 - 90mg sodium, 14 - 16g carbs, 2 - 5g fiber, 6 - 8g sugars, 10 - 12g protein -- SmartPoints® value 3*

Some flavored Greek yogurts have sky-high sugar counts, which means sky-high calorie counts. Not this stuff! Chobani's perfectly portioned Simply 100 yogurts are rich and creamy, and they come in great flavors like Strawberry Banana and Pineapple Coconut. There are even Crunch varieties with fun mix-ins! And they've got fiber and protein to satisfy that midday hunger.

Mini Babybel

1 piece: 50 - 70 calories, 3 - 6g total fat (2 - 4g sat. fat), 140 - 160mg sodium, 0g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, 4 - 6g protein -- SmartPoints® value 1 - 3*

These red-wax-wrapped cheese wheels practically scream "emergency snack." They're creamy, they've got single-serve convenience, and they're pocket sized! All of the flavors rock, but the Light one's my favorite. Only 50 calories...

StarKist Tuna Creations in Ranch, Sweet & Spicy, and Hot Buffalo Style

One 2.6-oz. pouch: 70 - 90 calories, 0.5 - 2g total fat (0 - 0.5g sat. fat), 380 - 620mg sodium, 0 - 4g carbs, 0g fiber, 0 - 3.5g sugars, 14 - 16g protein -- SmartPoints® value 1 - 2*

Bow down to StarKist, the tuna brand known for single-serve pouches. Thanks to its expertly seasoned, ready-to-eat tuna, the flaked fish is no longer just for sandwiches and salads -- grab a fork and dig in! These flavors are my favorites, but check 'em all out... (A few have over 100 calories, but they still rock.)
