I’d like to incorporate more high-protein snacks into my diet, but I’m not a fan of protein bars or shakes. Any suggestions?

You have the right idea… When I need a filling snack, I reach for protein. And if you’re not into bars or shakes, no worries: There’s a whole snack-tastic world out there! Here are five of my favorites…

Deli Turkey

It's the perfect snack that’s practically hiding in plain sight! Even if you’re not a sandwich eater, stock up on deli turkey. You can munch on it straight or make little rollups with pickles, cucumbers, or string cheese. Boar's Head is my go-to brand… I like to get the reduced-sodium kind sliced fresh at the deli counter.

Hard-Boiled Egg Whites

I always have hard-boiled eggs in my fridge. I like to remove the yolks to make room for fun fillings, like hummus or salsa. Need help making ‘em? If you have an Instant Pot, here’s a foolproof method. Or get yourself a Dash Rapid Egg Cooker! You can also find ready-to-eat hard-boiled eggs -- already peeled -- in the fridge section of some supermarkets. So convenient!

Bite-Sized Chicken Chunks

I’m SO on board with this trend: Several companies are making single-serving bags of cubed chicken for your snacking pleasure (and mine). There are even flavored options. Check out Tru Grill (SO GOOD!) and Foster Farms Bold Bites, or DIY with your own oven-baked chicken and seasonings.

Fat-Free Greek Yogurt

Single-serving containers of plain Fage Total 0% are a mainstay in my house. I’ll usually stir in a little sweetener and cinnamon… It’s even better than the fruit-flavored versions, and it’s a lot lower in sugar. Plus, plain Greek yogurt is super versatile. You can use it almost anywhere you’d use sour cream. For a simple protein-packed dip, just mix it with salsa!

Meat Sticks

The thought of meat sticks might give you Slim Jim flashbacks, but trust me: They’ve come a long way! DiMario Snack Sticks are AMAZING. (I especially like the Garlic & Fennel.) I buy those on Amazon. And check out the kinds by Chef’s Cut & Country Archer… Also great! I tend to go with ones that have under 100 calories a stick.

There you have it! Stock up, and chow down…
