Most Frequently Asked Health & Diet Questions

Feb 13 2026
Hi, it’s me, Lisa!

Today, I’m answering some of the questions I get asked most by email and on social media—plus, sharing my top resources on the subject! Let’s get into it...

“Do you follow a specific diet plan?”

No, I don’t. I've just learned what works really well for me. Originally (when I lost 20+ lbs. around 25 years ago), I cut out all “dry carbs”—things like bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes. Today, I limit those for the most part, sticking with lots of lean protein, fruits, and vegetables. And I pay attention to calories, because I believe calories count (no matter what anyone says). But I don’t really avoid anything completely. I love food, and I find ways to eat the foods I love. And that could mean just eating healthy foods or finding healthier ways to eat the comfort foods I crave. I basically live by the 80/20 rule, which I'll explain later in this email…

“What is the 80/20 rule?”

It’s more of a philosophy, really, and it’s as simple as this: 80% of the time I’m making what I consider smart food choices. To me, that means eating healthy foods that have good macros (carb, fat, and protein counts)—foods I enjoy, and foods that will fill me up but are good for me. 20% of the time, I give myself freedom to have things I crave, like pizza and French fries. I find that balance really works for me; because if I avoided those things completely, I think I'd feel deprived and wouldn’t be as happy and satisfied.

“What do you eat in a day?”

I’m not sure if there’s a typical day of eating for me—my diet changes depending on what my day entails. Some days, I’m creating & taste testing recipes; some days, I’m making a lot of food videos; other days, I’m traveling. But I can say this: In general, my diet contains lots of fruits (Fuji apples are a favorite), vegetables (including salads—yup, even in the winter!), lean protein (like egg whites, turkey, and chicken!), and Greek yogurt. My go-to drinks are water and unflavored Perrier. Like I said before, I’ve found what works for me—and no matter where I am or what I’m doing, I can eat in a way that supports my weight loss and lets me enjoy my life!
